Hi Amy, You are NOT the only one. I'm far from goal. I started at 497 and have lost 195#'s, but the weight loss has slowed way down. When I hit my 1 year anniversary, I decided to relax the rules a bit. People are always saying sometimes upping the carbs will help, going with too few isn't good. In two weeks I managed to put on 20#'s and that wasn't eating chocolates. Just plain old food. I can tolerate anything and don't dump. I joined Curves and got back on the protien train. Within 3 weeks the excess weight was off...but it hit a major plateau there. It's been a hard fought pound or two here or there. I'll drop 2#'s one day, gain back 3 then next, down two and gain back one. Over time the scale is going down...but very slowly. I have lost 20#'s I think over the past 3 months. I know that's a lot for some...but realize, I still weigh over 300#'s. Many people starting their quest for WLS weigh far less than I am now...15 months after surgery. I'm thrilled with my progress to date...but fear it will end here. I would be thrilled to be withing 20-30#'s of goal at this point. I realize I have far more to lose than most and that it won't happen overnight either. I have my fears, but continue to plug away, following my surgeons program. I have come to several conclusions. I will never have to fear "stopping" the weight loss. I am carb intolerant and most carbs will not be a part of my food plan...at least on a daily basis. One guy in our group told of eating cereal with a banana for breakfast every day. He's lost 190#'s in 10 months. If I ate that every day, I'd be right back up to 500#'s. I don't touch cereal and have had maybe 5 banana's in the past year. It's been sobering to realize that I will NEVER be able to eat anything close to "normal". Not because I can't tolerate it...but because if I do...I will gain weight and quickly at that. Hang in there, keep following your surgeon's program...and don't give up without a fight! Lori Ann

Hi Amy, I have to admit...when the surgeon told me what his weight loss goals were for me - I laughed in his face. At 5' 9", I was supposed to get down to 145lbs!! I am presently at 188lbs (from 340) and am HAPPY with where I'm at. Sure, I'd like to lose more weight - and I know how to do it; however, I'm just not ready to make that commitment yet (I LOVE CARBS!!). I guess what I'm trying to say is - what are your goals? Did you have pre-set number in your head that you are trying to reach? Are you happy with the weight loss you've had?? Try to keep it in perspective! You're lost >122lbs!!!! That's saying something right there!! Hang in there! --Julie

Wow Julie! Im also 5' 9" and can't imagine 145! I would have laughed in his face too! I started at 306lbs and now weigh 176. My initial goal was just to make it under 200 and when I did that I set my goal to 160. Im not really sure if I will make it or not but just the thinking about that I can wear size 12's now makes me very happy and I dont think about the number anylonger.
