3-1-04 I am 7 months post-op and my weight loss stoped about a month ago. Help please if you are having this problem or if you did have this problem and now it is better. Thanks, Sandra

Sandra, I thought mine had stopped to, but it just considerably halted. I only lost 1-2 pounds last month. I talked to Dr. Coirin about this and he said it is normal. We will hit a plateau and then lose and then hit another plateau and then lose. Don't be discouraged! I know that is hard! We lose so fast after surgery and then our bodies just make a complete stop and we are not ready for it yet! I have heard a few things to shock your system - you can either up your protein intake (even if it is by shakes) or you can go back to the 1st weeks diet (the liquid diet) and most people usually break the plateau. I can even think about going back to that liquid diet, but I did up my caloric intake and I lost 2.5 more pounds. Good luck! And keep up the good work.

7/29/03 357-225 Sandra, I was in the same boat. My weight loss had came to a complete holt. I was on a platue for 5 weeks then boom i lost 7lbs like that. Hang in the scale will move again. I increased my exercise and my water intake, i think it helped to break the platue. Good luck.

I can understand the frustration. My mother has a lot of plateaus and even after a year and a healthy appetite, she will suddenly lose a few pounds. You're still in the honeymoon period, so I doubt it has stopped completely. Just keep doing what you're doing. K

Me too. I haven't lost anything for about 2 months, well to be more accurate I keep losing and gain the same 5 everyday. I just keep telling myself its because I have joined a gym. We gotta hang in there though.

Hi Sandra my name is Stephanie and I had my RNY surgery 07/03 and my weight loss has pretty much stopped too. Are you exercising? When I took the required pre-surgery class my surgeon required, the nutritionist said we'd eventually level-off unless we exercised regularly and avoided ALL calorie containing drinks, because liquid just goes right through the stomach and makes you gain weight (or just not lose it) faster than anything. My problem is that I haven't exercised hardly at all. I've lost about half my excess body weight and I don't think any more is going to come off unless I exercise. I don't know if this info is helpful to you, but maybe it's a starting place to figure out what's stopped your weight loss?

Hi Sandra, My name is Doreen, banded by Dr. Geiss 7/7/03 so I'm about 9 months out. I have lost periods of weight loss time by plateauing until I got another fill, even if its a slight one. Sometimes it needs to be tweeked. I use Dr. Scarmatto at Northshore in Manhasset. I wish I knew alittle more about you so I could give you advice, are you active? Are you walking? I walk a few times a week 2.5 miles (45 min). It makes a difference. Also sometimes if you do something drastic like drink a ton of water one day, or eat alot of salad & fiber, it kinda shocks the body and everything starts back into the weight loss mode. I also drink protein drinks for bkfst, myoplex, premixed (from GNC, chocolate). Please feel free to email me and lets support each other & keep in touch. Doreen ([email protected])
