Only 70 pounds since July 1st
Hi Stacie! I had an open RYN on 7/14/03. I've lost "50" pounds so far. I was thinking like you too by saying "only 50" pounds until someone else replied to me. She told me I needed to be thankful that I'm a success story in that I don't throw up everyday, I can tolerate almost any food and yes, I've lost FIFTY POUNDS in 3 1/2 months. When is the last time you were able to lose SEVENTY POUNDS in 4 months? Oh my gosh...SEVENTY POUNDS IS AWESOME!!! What is the matter with you, you ask? It sounds like some negative thinking going on in your head dear! Look at the brighter side, do what you're supposed to do, and the weight will come off! I don't know where you started, but I was 310 when I had my surgery. I'm 260 now. Everyone goes at their own pace. Thank God you're alive and doing well. Have a wonderful day!! ~Janet~

I think if there is one thing that bothers me about these messageboards, it's the fact that we tend to compare ourselves to everyone else and no matter how well we are doing, we find ourselves 'failing'.
When was the last time you could say you lost fifty pounds in three months? Or 60, or 70, or 90? Think about how much that is, in such a short period of time.
We are ALL different, each and every one of us. We tolerate different foods, have different execise and metabolism levels. Remember that it's not the number that is important, it is the fact that you are succeeding, whether it's the fastest rate or the slowest posted. You are WINNING the battle!
Mary, 3 months, 1 week, down 55.5 pounds.
OK......what is wrong with us? We all want to be successful, where our weight loss is concerned, but we are a success. We are all different. We all have different things going on. We started out at different weights and we are going to lose at different rates. I have loss 75 lb. in seven weeks, but I was over 400 lb. pre-op. I was taking Lasix and I was full of water. Most of the first weight loss was water. We should not compare ourselves. We lose a percentage of our weight each week and some weeks we don't lose anything. All I have to say is, "BE GREATFUL." Have some acceptance, OK?
Just goes to show you that everyone is different regarding WLS. I had mine on July 28 of this year and have lost 70 lbs so far. My husband had his on October 29 of this year and already lost 50 lbs. But we are both able to tolerate all foods and do not get sick and we walk a lot together instead of being couch potatoes. We are so much healthier and happy especially this time of year to be finally succeeding at losing weight and keeping it off. When it's time to make New Year's resolutions we can say "hey it came true!!!--we wanted to lose weight and we did it" Happy holidays to All!!!
Stacie I so understand where you are coming from I too have just lost 70 lbs. since July 3rd and I have been so depressed wondering what I have done wrong when everyone else seems to be loosing weight and inches faster than me. I would love to here from you sometime. I will keep you in my prayers also. Thanks DuAne
I had RNY micropouch surgery 07-10-2003. I have lose 70# to date and it
has been almost 6 months. I am thinking that this is not fast enough, either. But, I am thankful for every pound lost. I don't weigh 282# anymore and I am on no medications at all except multi vitamins and calcium. I hardly vomit anymore and am much less tired and can fit into pants that are 3 sizes smaller than when I had surgery. I am thrilled. I will reach goal to weigh 1/2 my size, even if it takes another year. I did not put it on overnight. I have been obese all my adult life. I am so happy. Be happy and healthy. The loss will come. Be patient.
