Yucky protein shakes!
Hi, I had RNY on 7/16/03, just wondering if anyone else is unable to drink the protein shakes? I get extreme nausea and have even broken out in hives when I drink these. Tried the Protein bars and just experienced the nausea with them. So, at this point I am just trying to get as much protein through peanut butter, cheese, etc., but I know I'm not getting enough. Any suggestions? Tired of wasting money on things that I can't eat.
Have you tried Unjury protein powder. They make chocolate, vanilla and unflavored. I could not tolerate any protein shake till I tried teh chocolate one. It tastes just like chocolate milk and mixed with 6 ounces of skim milk gives you 26 grams of protein. I love it! www.unjury.com I believe they have a money back guarentee. Good luck!
I can't tolerate the protein drinks either. The smell, taste, consistency, all make me feel nauseous.
I've been using Sugar Free Carnation Instant Breakfast Drinks. I mix them with Skim Milk so that the one cup has 12 grams as protein. Granted, that's half of what a protein shake offers but trust me, the flavor is worth it. I wouldn't trade them for world. I drink 2 cups a day, and then supplement protein with other sources. Cottage cheese is a fantastic source, about 12 grams for 1/2 cup. Egg whites, beans, make some hummus! It's great tasting, rich in protein, and can be used as a spread. I've also found that I can tolerate fish well, so I have a little bit every day. Between those items as well as things like yogurt and milk, I've been managing to take in about 50+ grams of protein per day. Yesterday, a walloping 63 grams!
I've found that staying away from all the 'fad' foods and drinks works best for me. I am trying to eat healthy as well as 'naturally', and finding that I'm able to tolerate much more that way.
Hi Patti!
I agree with you...I haven't found a protein drink that I can stand, either! I just went to the Unjury website and they have a phone number you can call to order. I called and asked if they had samples they could send so I wouldnt have to waste money on a mix that I might not use. The guy I talked to was very nice and said they did send samples. So you might want to contact them and try them first before buying a large quantity. Good Luck!
