I'm trying to keep a daily record of my post-op obsticles and events on my profile page if anybody is interested. I'm very interested in talking with people who are within 10 days post op because I want to know if some of the things I'm going through is similiar to others. For instance for the past two days I've had a lot of internal gas pains. Tried some chewable gas-x and that helped for a bit but seems everytime I drink something the new tummy starts making weird noises. I had rNY gastric bypass on July 11th. I'd love to know what tips or suggestions some of you veterns have for the first month out of surgery. Any habbits I should start doing now? I'm having my protein smoothies for breakfast and for lunch. Should I include dinner too? BTW - cream of mushroom soup tastes really good to me. some soups don't like tomato soup (ick). Weird because I use to love tomoato soup. I'm also playing it safe and using lacto-free milk. Thanks for allowing me to post! -Rachel

Hi Rachel I had Lap RNY on 7/14 and have also been experiencing the gas/bloating pains (terrible). Seems like it happens every time I eat or drink something, no matter what it is. Takes a while to pass the gas too. Very uncomfortable feeling but I am told this will pass. I've tried the Gas-X chewable tabs too but didn't get much relief. I have been mixing my protein shakes with skim milk and seem to be tolerating them just fine. I hope I don't get the lactose intolerant thing because I absolutely love dairy products. I was supposed to be on liquids for 2 weeks post-op but after 1 week of broth & jello I was ready to scream. I've begun to incorporate semi-solid foods in my meals. I've tried and tolerated refried beans, cottage cheese, mashed potatoes (with a spot of gravy) and egg beaters which 1/2 slice cheese on top. Eating semi-solids has also helped to make me feel "full" and I am now beginning to have formed stools, as opposed to that god awful diarrhea! I haven't been so good with the fluids because they were making me run to the bathroom about every 30 minutes! I'm going to start trying harder though! I've been out and walked and considering that a week ago I had major surgery, I feel great. I hope your recovery goes as well as mine. Best of luck to you! Sue
