Had recent Stomaphyx
Hey all fellow WLS July'ers. Well it was 4 years ago that I lost 140 lbs and then gained back about 38 of them. I had the stomaphyx procedure that was done by Dr. Shawn Garber of New Hyde Park, New York. He is only 1 of 8 Dr's in the U.S. doing this. I had it done November 27th. I was in the hospital one night and went home the next morning. They make you walk every two hours but it's a piece of cake because this procedure is done endoscopically you can get out of bed no problem. I was a bit nauseous for the first few days, but felt better within a week. As of today I have lost 11 lbs. It's a lot slower this time around, but for anybody who has gained back weight, this is one great solution. It was covered by the insurance my husband has which is the Gov't Empire Insurance/United Health care. I may just have to cover the deductible, but so far nothing has come in the mail. If anybody has any questions, feel free to ask. God Bless--------------Angie
Hi Angie,
I have quite a few people from our support group that have gained back some significant amounts of weight. I have lost 138 pounds and have kept it off, but It is a struggle now.
I am interesting in hearing more about this procedure so I could talk to our Doctor in Fort Dodge, Iowa about it. Maybe it would help a lot of people. Dr. Ver Steeg has done over 500 surgeries RNY type in 5 years. I think he would probably know about it. Please write to my regular e mail if possible: [email protected] thanks so much, and congratulations for your great weight loss!

Hi Angie, I just found your post; I am looking at various boards to find some help with my weight regain. I had surgery in 2004 and have gained back 18 lbs. from my lowest weight - I'm terrified. I can eat anything now, in any quantity. My question to you: has the results of your Stomaphyx remained? Were you successfull in getting your regained weight off and now in keeping it off? I have not heard that this procedure is successful, in fact quite the opposite. Please tell me where you're at with this, Thanks, I really appreciate it. Maureen
Maureen: Did you get an answer back from Angie? I too had surgery in 2004. I really would have liked to lose a little more than what I did but on top of that I have gained back 20 pounds. I am thinking of having the Stomaphyx or something. I have had 2 sclerotherapy''s but it has not helped me remove the extra weight. I sure would appreciate a response. My personal e-mail is [email protected]. Thanks for reading this.
Nope, never heard back. Keep researching - I certifiably believe that none of the endoscopic procedures work - period. Do not pursue the Stomaphyx, Rose, or any of the like. I am maintaining my weight at between 155 and 160 and am trying very hard to focus my energy on eating healthily and working out regularly. This is the only "miracle" fix to keeping the weight off. Best of luck, Maureen
Hi Angie, I am researching having this done. I have fep BCBS am wondering if this covered under my ins. I begin at 331 lbs got down to 201 and regained almost 65 lbs through all of this I have knee surgery, foot drop broke foot, back surgery, and just recent foot surgery. everything always seems to get in the way of my plan to get back on track and lost my grandmother on top of this. Please Help i see my surgeon on thursday knowing he is going to yell at me.
