I still have some weight to lose and I am wondering if I should start shopping plastic surgeons like I did WL surgeons? I, anyone at this point yet? Thanks, Dawn T

I am at just about half my goal loss. Fortunately, with the Band more weight loss is possible but I am not counting on it. If you don't mind my asking, did insurance pay for anything you did? I know they tend not to pay for the full body lift. How do you feel? Two weeks after isn't very long that surgery I hear.

I have had breast reduction (july 2003) and a tummy tuck (march 2004). My insurance paid for both because of medical conditions. I went to the PS my insurance approved. If you have any questions...please e-mail me. Good Luck. Kim

Thanks! In fact, a big thank you to each of you! This is very helpful. I have wondered for those of you who were able to get insurance to pay, did it matter what order each surgery went in when it comes to them paying? I would actually like to get some breast work done first as I think my changes are probably pretty much done in that area. Would that "tip off" the insurance company that I am interested in having them pay for other things after that? Thanks, Dawn

Depending on what you are having done... I think its ok to shop around now and get the ball rolling for the surgery. I had my breast-lift and implants done about 18 months out. I would still like to have some lipo done on my hips - as well as a tummy tuck and my arms done. My plastic surgeon (8 months ago) told me to wait on the tummy tuck and the arms because I was hoping to lose more weight. I was not super-huge pre-op and I dont have massive ammounts of loose skin, so for me, I can get away with tucking it in my pants and wearing a shirt with sleeves. But there are some women in my support group at the hospital who's skin was so loose that they underwent 1 tummy tuck and 1 arm job... and then another tummy tuck and arm job when they lost more weight. As you know, ANY TIME you have ANY surgery - its a risk - and usually having 2 of the same proceedures is frowned upon. I suggest that you look around - but wait as long as possible - and be sure your surgeon is knowledgable about WLS and knows what to expect of your body.

Valerie, you look WONDERFUL! I looked over your profile and one of these days I'll have to Email you with some other questions. But as far as the plastic surgery, my question to you is, what made you and your surgeon decide on the the lift proceedure rather than enlargment? I was thinking that just pumping them back up with something would be simpler. But of course, then they are heavy and my upper back just quit hurting last year! I still have not heard back from the surgeon my WLS friends are using and wondering if I should keep looking. Thanks, Dawn

I have a consultation on July 5th for panny and thight lift. My surgeon is a transplant Dr. and other that the surgery and blood test once a year he does not have a lot to do with it WLS. Plus he does not perform the surgery anymore. I lost 170pds and have lots of skin I had a hernia removed in Jan 04 the scar is uncomfortable and still sore ish after 6 mo. I have no major problems with my skin except the usual. Can't run or excercize much unless with tights skin flaps and too much. Anyone else had there's approved without major problems.

I've been shopping plastic surgeon for the last 6 months...it's a big step and i'm hoping I can get my insurance company to help pay for some of my body lift. I'll keep you informed.

I HAD A TUMMY TUCK ONE MONTH AND A DAY AFTER I HAD NONADJUSTIBLE BANDING SURGERY. I WAS 326 POUNDS AND NOW WEIGHT 165. THE PLASTIC SURGEON SAID SHE TOOK OFF 8.5 POUNDS OF FLE****HOUGHT IT WOULD BE AT LEAST 30 POUNDS. I AM IN HOUSTON, TX. I FOUND MY SURGEON THROUGH MY FRIEND WHO HAD LIPO. SHE HIGHLY RECOMMENDED HER. YOU NEED TO NETWORK WITH PEOPLE TO FIND THE GOOD ONES. MY PLASTIC SURGEON IS DR, LISA SANTOS. YOU NEED TO LOSE AS MUCH AS YOU CAN TO GET THE BEST "BANG FOR YOUR BUCK". HER FEE WAS 7000. INSURANCE PAID 80% ON THE HOSPITAL ONLY. I SPENT TWO NIGHTS. I AM NEW ON THIS WEBSITE SO I HAVEN'T POSTED PICTURES BUT I HAVE THE BEFORE AND AFTER PICTURES. I JUST HAVE'T LEARNED HOW YET. I HAVE HAD NUMEROUS SURGERIES SUCH AS TWO KNEE REPLACEMENTS,ETC., AND THIS IS A LONG INCISION BUT THE PAIN LEVEL WAS LOW BECAUSE NERVES UNDER THE SKIN ARE CUT.
