Topic: RE: Gaining all the weight back
Hi, I am also a July 2001 surgery date. I have had a rough ride this year. It seems like someone flipped the switch. I went and joined weigh****chers, and am trying to incorporate exercise into my life again. Here is the deal....the surgery has served it's purpose and now we are back to being like everyone else. Yes, we can't do what we used to do and eat thousands of calories at once, but we can spread them out over the course of the day.
Just don't give up. I have gained back 30 lbs from my post surgery weight. I am still happy with the results, but now am ready to finish my journey and lose the rest of my weight. I think we forget who we are for awhile. We forget that we have a problem with food. And then one day you wake up and your weight is coming back. I never want to go back to where I started (368 lbs).
I wish you all the best, and hope everyone achieves their goals.

The most I seem to be reading on the board from my fellow July 2001 Post Ops is gaining the weight back....What's going on?
I really feel too many are having this surgery blindly, NO RESEARCH, no thoughts to the MAJOR changes.
Many are looking at this as a quick fix with NO real effort on their parts.
I feel bad, but I cant feel sorry for those who go right back to their old eating habits in addition to forcing food into their little pouches. Honestly, If I eat too much, it hurts so bad, I have to throw up, I dont sit there and let the excess expand my pouch.
People need to not only do more research but need to seek mental help before and after the WLS if any real sucess is to be acheived....I went from 298 to 113 then up to 120 and finally 180...Im now down to 130 cause I realized what I was doing wrong.
I really hope those who are not doing good look at their eating and drinking habits to decide is it really the DR that screwed up or you failing to use your WLS as what it was meant to be....A TOOL.
Im pregnant now and more then ever Im watching what I eat...being 4 mo. pregnant, Im still at 130 and the baby is fine, It's what and how you eat...once you realize what your doing with food, you'll eat to live and NOT live to eat, and your WLS tool will be your prized possesion...not a hinderance or regret.
Good luck to everyone.

I am so sorry to hear this...I know ALOT of people who is going thru the same thing. But honestly, ALOT of people forget that this surgery is simply a tool and you CAN NOT eat or drink alot of the same things that packed on the lbs.
My best friend had the surgery and went back to drinking beer and liquor...She obviously gained the weight she lost and then some....Look at your eating habits...Please dont think Im being harsh, I started gaining weight too, especially since I realized I could eat chocolate and candy w/o dumping...Once I stopped and thought about it, I went back to the begining and fasted for 3 days of NOTHING bu****er...I slowly introduced, once again...Protein but continued with the water as I felt hungry...If I craved salt, I had beef, chicken, or fish broth...if I craved something sweet....I had a protein shake...Have you REALLY tried to lose the weight or have you assumed that the surgery was a cure all and you'd lose the weight w/o effort or work on your part???
I've been where you are to some point..I was 298, went down to 113 lb....stabalized at 120...then sky rocketed up to 185 lbs....With my realization of my eating habits and misuse of the surgery I went down to 130 and Im now pregnant...and the baby is fine and my weight is stabalized at 130...for now....obviously weight gain is inevitable with a baby growing in me. GOOD LUCK.

Wish I had comforting words for you, but I'm in the same position! I can just see every ounce creaping back on and I can't seem to stop eating! I can't even afford to go back (Dr. V doesn't take my new insurance) and have things checked out, so I feel like I went through the whole thing for nothing. I know about the depression you speak. I wish they could have removed part of my brain along with the stomach! Good luck to you and hope you can get some help! If you do let me know what they say.

I am a 5yr. postie and have never regretted this surgery. Yes, I've had my struggles, but overall, my life is better and still improving. Right now, I'm dealing with anemia for the first time, but it's (my hemoglobin) improving. I agree that maybe the psychological aspect of this life transforming surgery isn't given as much consideration as should be. I would advise anyone who undergoes gastric bypass to join support groups and get counseling. This will help you avoid alot of pitfalls you might not have considered...

I feel so badly for you, and know just how you feel! I'm in the same situation. All of my clothes from losing the weight are now too tight. I wish there was training for your brain to go along with the surgery. Some people are so grateful just to have lost a lot of weight that it's enough to motivate them to keep it off. Wish I was one of them. I too suffer from depression, because I once again feel as though I failed another attempt at weight loss, only now others are even more critical because I've let myself get so out of control after having the help from the surgery. My surgeon no longer accepts my insurance, and I can't afford him out of pocket, but would love to have that support again! I hope you find peace with yourself at whatever weight you are, and my prayers are with you. Have you tried the site pouch rules for dummies? Maybe you can find something you can use on there. I hope you get the answers you want and need. Good luck to you!
