Yes, we have all sat down and had "the talk".  Husband won't be as bad of an issue as he leaves to go back to Afghanista a few days before my surgery an will be gone for six months or so.  The kids will just go by what I do and have to live with it.  ha ha  They don't know it, but once in a while I will send them out with the daughter that can drive and they can go have pizza or something so they aren't completely deprived, but I want them to mostly eat what I have to once I can get to the point of eating semi-normal meals.  In fact, the daughter that was teasing me yesterday, I told her that since she just volunteered to help me out that she could do my pre-op liquid diet with me.  You should have seen her face!    ha ha

Good to hear!  I normally have a high pain tolerance as well, so hope that is the case with this surgery too.

No, don't beat yourself up too bad!  Though we should always follow our dr's orders to the "T", it just doesn't always work out that way.  If you "fall off the wagon", just get back on as soon as possible.  Keep in mind, this surgery will force us to follow very strict menu's, especially the first 2 mos post-op.  I have seen plenty of posters talking of doing various pre-op diets and each Dr is different and in some cases, it is due to each particular patient and what the Dr feels they need to do.

If you are binging and eating full meals, then, yes, you should stop that immediately!  I am trying my best to do my seven day liquid diet and oddly have not been hungry, but had trouble with my hypoglycemia and TERRIBLE headache that started on the end of Day one and ALL of Day two.  Day one, my only "sin" was I had a little less than 2 Tbsp of peanut butter to help with my hypoglycemia.  I didn't beat myself up because I knew I wasn't eating it out of hunger, binging, etc.  Day Two was a little rougher because of the terrible headache.  I was getting to the point of feeling like I had to vomit so I broke down and had some Wendy's chili.  I know that is a low fat favorite for post-ops and figured at least it isn't a full meal and it isn't fries and cheeseburgers.
Within an hour of eating it, headache was gone and has not been back, so it was worth it for me.  Bowels are still cleansing at a steady pace....definitely liquids in, liquids out!  ha ha

Not sure if your Dr required you to have a bowel cleanse or not, but if they didn't, and you are worried about it, you can get one on your own for less than $5 at Wal-Mart.  I know that cleaning the bowel is not the only reason for the pre-op diet.  THE most important thing is to shrink that liver.  So don't beat yourself up, but DO YOUR BEST to get back on the liquid wagon and keep it going.  If you absolutely have to eat something, I would suggest keeping it semi liquid foods like Malt-o-Meal, etc.  My Dr ok'd SF pudding and jello for mine, but not sure if your pre-op was just a generic one that your Dr gives to all his patients or if this one was specific just for you.

But no, you are not the only one struggling.  The more you can do, the more you will benefit from it when your liver has been a good liver and has shrunk for your surgery.  It's only a few more days!  Hang in there!

Destin is beautiful!  My son still lives in Pensacola, so I get down that way now and then.  Well I an not able to take any time off in July due to a new program at work, so I am having to wait until August now!  I just hope it can be early August.
Good Luck Tuesday.  I had my original surgery in 2002, so I am having a revision now!
Let me know how everything goes!

Ha!  We just got back from that neighborhood from a mini vacation in Destin! LOVED IT!!  We live near Auburn.  I have the RNY next Tues.
Don't know much about Edmond hospital.  Did they say how much of a delay you would have to get a new date?

Edit:  I was born and raised in Norman and went into the military right out of high school, husband and I got out of military and got married afterwards.  His job brought us to Alabama in 2007.

Topic: Back Home!
Am happy to report that I am safe and sound and back home. Actually got released late yesterday afternoon (had some problems with nausea from the first pain med they tried and then had my oxygen plummet which delayed my release by about six hours.)

But am home, had my first good post-op sleep (in my own bed), and am looking very forward to my upcoming shower!

Things went better - and differently than I expected. One big difference being the oxygen - which is going to require home therapy for at least two weeks. Which was totally unexpected. Luckily the dust bunnies didn't scare the oxygen tech to death!

So just the logistics of that sent a monkey wrench into the plans.

The physical surgery itself went awesome. My incisions are A-MA-ZING - tiny and don't even itch much less hurt! And I have the cutest new belly button as well! There is more pain and bruising from these darned Heparin shots than from the incision sites. Mostly have no pain, but took some pain meds to help sleep and to provide a cushion for when I twisted and turned which did help. (Especially when I woke up with two cats sleeping on my stomach/chest which luckily still had a pillow on it to prevent such problems.)

The nausea was not unexpected - had it the last time I had surgery as well - and that slowed down recovery. Had me on three different nausea meds and still was unable to keep anything down at first. (They will not switch you from IV pain meds until you can pass the water test to show that you can ingest and keep down the volume of liquid required for the oral pain meds.) I actually ended up just going without any pain meds at all for about six hours (which was not too terrible) which cleared up the nausea and allowed me to do the water test, drink broth, jello, iced tea, etc. By the time I left the hospital I was doing 4 ounces per hour easily and so far today and doing one ounce every five minutes for the first part of the hour and then sip, sip, sipping for the rest.

All in all, it went incredibly well. Never actually got nervous, husband was awesome, family was supportive, and other than the nausea and oxygen complications the whole thing was oddly not even unpleasant. (Well, other than those Heparin shots! Which we now get to self-administer for the first time...ugh!) Surgeon and hospital staff were also absolutely incredible.

Hope all the other June post-ops are recovering well and that the pre-ops are preparing well!
