Carrie,

Yippie another RNY partner and on the same day as me which is even better.  I guess every surgeron/program is different, since I've only been on clear liquids since my surgery.  I'm on them until after my 1 week apt. with the doc & then I can go onto some soft foods.  It's hard enough to get liquids all down.  Haven't had the dry heaves so I'm glad in that department though sad for you.  Hope you are doing better.  My tummy soreness comes & goes.  It depends on my movement.  Right now my staples are bugging me...ichy.  I'm hoping they are coming out soon!!!  Other than that I'm just trying to get all my fluids in which isn't easy.  Anywho, I gotta go for now, though please keep in touch!!

Trumpetluv,

We had the RNY on the same day.  I am in Texas.  I have had some sensitivity to almost everything but clear liquids.  I was put back on clear liquids again today.  I had dry heaves this morning.  Not the most pleasant think when your tummmy is still so sore!

How are you doing?

There is something called isopure at GNC it is a sports drink that has lots of protein in it. It is a clear liquid. I've heard they're a little pricy though.

Hello and thank you for the message.  It's nice to hear that I'm not alone in this whole process.  Before my surgery I went through a series of classes to prepare for the surgery, though the people I met have not kept in commuication as much.  I do have a cousin that had her's done in February, so I always have her to lean on.  I just thought that I would come on here to find some more support.

I found the surgery more difficult than I thought too.  I heard mixed opinions about peoples experiences with the surgery.  Some had no pain & some had a lot.  I had A LOT in the hospital and some the last few days.  It's getting better.  I did not have a drain, which I hear some people do & some don't depending on the surgeon.  My cousin had one as well though I think hers was removed before she went home.

I'm right there with ya on the protein smell.  BLAH!  I couldn't stand it in the hospital.  I found these protien drinks at Costco that are premixed that work good for me.  The smell/taste doesn't bother me much.  It's made by Premier Nutrition.  It has 30g of protein per drink & 1g sugar.  I am still getting used to the new "routine" too.  It seems like I'm constantly looking at the clock & wondering if it's been 15 minutes so I can take my next pill, water or protein.  I'm hoping that part gets better.  I just try to do the best I can & hopefully it's enough.  Oh, and I agree with you on the popsicles.  I had my first one yesterday & enjoyed it much more than the old protein shake.

Emotionally, I'm doing ok.  Luckly I have a VERY supportive husband who has been very encouraging.  He's helped me a lot with getting back on my feet & encouraging me to work towards my goals.

Nights are bad for me too!!! Uggg!  I hate going to bed.  When I was in the hospital I was in so much pain that I kept waking up & pushing my pain button.  They had me hooked up to so many things that it was hard for me to sleep.  In addition, they would wake you up every couple of hours to take lab work, take your vitals or change your IV.  Hated it!!!  Now that I'm home, I'm just having trouble sleeping through the night.  I am in my bed, though I've put several pillows behind me so I don't sleep completly on my back.  I'm just afraid of not being able to get out of bed if I lay completely flat & laying on my side is just not going to happen right now.  I think we just need to give it time & things will get better.  That is what my cousin says anyways.  Well, I have to get up an walk a bit so I'm going to end here.  Thanks again for the message & hopefully we can route each other on as we go!!!  Take care!!!

Thank you for the reply.  Each day post-op is gettting a little better.  I still have trouble sleeping at night.  I can't seem to sleep all through the night.  I guess it's from being woken up so much in the hospital for lab work, vitals & to try to get someone to help me get up for the restroom.  Something to look forward to on your hospital stay.
I've noticed that eating is way different to.  You're constantly looking at the clock wondering if it's been 15 minutes yet so you can drink more water or have more protein.  I hear it gets better, though I'm looking forward to getting back to a more "normal" routine.
Emotionally, I'm doing well.  I have a VERY supportive husband that has been encouraging me all the way.  I just set up my "one week post-op" appointment this morning and I'm looking foward to seeing how much I lost & to see when I can get my staples out.  Anywho, thank you again for all of the encouragement.  I wish you luck on your surgery.
