I'm scheduled for June 29th as well (VSG). Excited, anxious, nervous, almost every emotion I can imagine is all coming to surface. Where are you having your surgery? I'm in CA. Please keep in touch - it's nice to know someone else that will have the same surgiversary.

Topic: 6 days post op

Hi everyone, 6 days post op as of today. I feel like I have run the gamut of emotions and physical sensations in less than a week. I thought that everyone at the hospital (UMass Memorial, Worcester, Ma) was wonderful, and that I got excellent care there. Since I have never had surgery, I was shocked to discover how painful post op recovery was and still is. I'm still taking about 6 percocets a day--but I do feel a little bit better every day. Luckily, I have yet to feel nausea or overstuffed, which had me worried that I would be the one person in a million that the surgery wasn't successful for. Then again, I haven't really tried to overeat either, although I have eaten a piece of cheese, and felt no different for it.  My staples are starting to get pink at the edges so I have applied some bacitracin a few times a day. Hopefully that will work. I am sooo sick of sweet shakes, so I have started to mix  v-8 and chicken broth (both on my acceptable list of liquids) to make a delicious soup.  The hardest thing to get in is water because if you sip it wrong, a lot of air seems to get in the pouch. I gained 16 lbs while in the hospital, which I have learned is from the IV fluids, and general swelling. I have lost 13 which means I have 3 to go to get to my pre op weight! I've been constipated , and started stool softeners with success. I'm imaging that I'll wake up one morning and be 3 lbs below the pre op weight. That's how I have always lost weight in the past. Nothing for weeks, then a 10 lb weight loss overnight. Odd.
Emotionally, I have gone from thinking that I've made a huge mistake, to thinking I've done exactly the right thing. I still look at food and really, really, want to eat it. I feel like I have lost my best friend, and my worst enemy all at once. I have fits of anxious doubt that this surgery will work, to utter fear that it will work too well, and i'll disappear. I've had several nightmares, in part due to the perocet. Thankfully, I have a lot of support as I went through the weight loss surgery program with 2 friends--one who has had the surgery 3 weeks before me, and one who will have it 8 weeks after me.
I hope that everyone else is doing well, well, well, and I'm looking forward to this journey with you all.

Topic: RE: Just had surgery on June 10th
Had mine on Thursday the 11th, was an ex-lapbander.  This seemed a lot more difficult but I'm glad to be out of the hospital.  Any of you have bad headaches?  They took me off my hbp meds before and after surgery and didn't know if the headaches were related.  Was put on Tyl/codeine  for pain and am used to popping 4 tylenols when I had a headache before but I'm sure we're all restricted to the amount of pain meds.  Mine by the way are large caplets that you have to break in half but I'm getting used to them.

My left side is the sorest, think that's where they went in with the stapler.  My drain was taken out Saturday after I was released.

My daughter had her surgery over a year ago and she slept in a reclining position, I'm partically reclined with extra pillows in bed but if I sleep on my good side, the drain side, I often wake up with headaches so I try to sleep on my back.

I'm just working on my non-clears today and have gotten in some thinned yogurt and milk and trying some unflavored unjury tonight with yogurt and milk I hope it doesn't taste pukey!!

Anyway good luck to us all, we need it!!  Nancy.

RNY on the 17th. I am excited, and afraid. I am ready to get it over and move on with my life. I feel as if I have been in a holding pattern for a long time. I also have been on the 2 week 800 cal full liquid and now the 2 day clear liquid.
Good luck to all of you! I hope you all get home safe and sound.

Topic: RE: Anyone headed to Aceves this week???
I missed you by approx one week, darn.  You will love everyone, though. For me, the toughest day was the second day, but every day has gotten better. Still a little sore but nothing I can't handle. The more I move, the better I feel, just trying not to overdo it too.  But I can say I am sick of clear liquids, I am being compliant for my safety, but dang I'm sooo looking forward to full liquids. That sounds crazy.  I just want to heal well. Congrats on your date and let us know how it all goes!
