Yesterday I got in about 34 ounces of water, about 1/2 shake and a little broth.  I am going to work a little harder on it today.  It is harder than I would have imagined.

That's wonderful that you feel so great so soon.  What type of surgery did you have?

Topic: Post-opers within the past week-Question
Good morning Newbies.  I have a question. How is everyone doing with the liquid intake and what type of things are you drinking/eating at this point?
Hope everyone is doing well.  Please also comment on what challenges you are experiencing at this poing.
For me, the liquid intake is a struggle.  My taste buds have changed and I'm not liking much of anything.  I had cream of wheat last night with a protein pack.  That went really well.  But for the liquids...yuk!  Any suggestions?  Thanks.
BTW, I'm still on liquids for another week.
Thanks.

I'm sure everything went smoothly.  The first few weeks are the hardest part, but you'll get through it and now I am happier than ever and do not regret it at all.  Keep your head up high, things will all be ok and you will get through it!!

I now consider myself "certifiably crazy" ... with papers! lol.... Even though I really think counseling will benefit me much more AFTER the surgery, because that is when we will be dealing with our loss of food and how to cope.  I had to buy my protein drink from the doctor.  Two weeks worth was $105.00.  It's Bariatric AdvantageProtein Supplement. It comes in Vanilla, Chocolate, Strawberry & Coffee flavors.  I've been taking the vitamins since October, too.  I take Flintstones chewable complete w/zinc & magnesium, one in the morning and one at bedtime.  I take my calcium two hours after multi-vitamin twice a day.  They say that you have to wait at least two hours to take calcium because the iron from the multi-vitamin causes it not to be absorbed as it should.  I am having the B-12 shots monthly.  I was told the shots were better absorbed than the B-12 dots you put under your tongue.  I will stop taking calcium at surgery date, and wait 4 weeks before resuming it.  Something about the calcium is hard on the stomach in beginning.  Thank goodness I just took my nutrional classes a couple of weeks ago, or I would have to re-educate myself.

Good luck on your surgery.

I went in for surgery June 9th.  My surgery went great and my husband said I was up and walking within 2 hours after getting out of recovery.  All of the staff at Univeristy of Iowa was awesome.  I came home with a JP drain and it come out at my first post op appointment on the 15th.  I went in to surgery at 357 - came out at 363 and as of Monday I weighed 349.  I can't wait until I can start using my own scale.  I only have 29 more pounds to lose then I can.
I went through a stage that I though I was never going to be able to get all my water in.  But then the swelling went down in my pouch and it's SOOOO much easier to drink.  Thank God.  That was my worst day, I thought I had made a huge mistake having the surgery and that I was going to get dehydrated and be hospitalized.  I had been doing so great up until that day and then I hit a downer.  I haven't had to take any kind of pain medication since the hospital took me off the pain pump.  I went back to work on the 17th for 1/2 days and I will go back fulltime on the 23rd.

Now that the sweilling has gone down in my pouch I am very greatful and I couldn't have felt any better.  I hope anybody that is reading this and has not had the surgery has as good of luck as I have had after surgery.
