Topic: Fresh From Surgery Fears?
I had my surgery 6/17, was in the hospital 2 days, have been home 2 days and find myself feeling really pretty great - essentially no complications, I can drink 8 glasses of water each day, get the protein in, etc. But I have fears and wondered if anyone else had the same ones and how they are coping with them:

I have an irrational fear my pouch was left too big - it is very easy for me to drink water, eat, etc. I thought it would be harder.

I have a fear I will fail this; let myself down and all those who have supported me - but mostly me (after preparing for this for 2 years)

I smell food, only days after surgery - like my neighbors BBQ - and my mouth waters and I think about it - it feels like I think about it too much. Truthfully if presented with it, I would not eat it - my stomach says NO for sure - but my head still thinks and my mouth still waters - it scares me. I have a fear my old urges will return and over come me; a fear of failing again.

I read blogs here of folks a month or two out from surgery eating crackers, nuts, and cookies and such - in very small amounts mind you - and my NUT and doc are saying none of that (refined sugar, carbs, nuts, etc) for 10 or 12 months - the fact that se newbies went to these food so quickly and could not stop themselves scares me - will I do the same?

I have to emphasize I feel great. And that I am grateful and positive about my surgery...but are these fears normal? How did others manage them? And what separates the real winners (those who do not 'cheat' on the progressions of food) from those who do not resist?

I want more than anything to be successful at this long term - my lifetime. So I need to tackle these fears......comments anyone???

I am on the shakes and puree and I ended up using the slim fast shakes with skim milk, I can drink them all the others YUCK.
I am struggling getting my pills and vitamins down, I am not feeling dehydrated and not drinking too much. I hope this isn't a problem.
Good luck

Topic: RE: june 1st surgerys, how much have you lost?
Don't worry and for heaven sakes don't get weighed except for once a month.
I think we expect so much after it is over, I haven't been weighed yet, I had my surgery June 2nd and don't see my doctor until the 29th. I hope I am not disappointed. IF you are following the program it will come off, we each are so different. I am sure you will have a huge loss and feel better. Take good care and keep in touch.

I am doing okay I think LOL, I am having trouble with the pills. I forget them most days, I hate the taste of the chewables and the protein as well. I ended up going with the slim fast shakes they have a decent amount of protein and I use skim milk. I am struggling because I feel best not eating or drinking at all and when I do eat it hurts as I think I am still eating it to fast. Mind you it is the puree YUCK.
I am going to try to get myself on track with the vitamins and shakes tomorrow and hope I can stick to it better.
Good luck and keep in touch.

Topic: RE: Help!

My God no way you could do that, I am drinking a 5 ounce protien shake at one time and that takes me about 15 minutes or so. Also get your water in but all in good time, in other words sips all day is about all you should be doing.
However I do think you should contact your doctors office and get the nutritionist to contact you and help you with the menu for the next few months.
Take care and good luck.

Hi Candice, that awful taste is caused by the rapid breakdown of fat (ketosis). SF mints, help. I brush my teeth constantly, but that doesn't seem to help. Hopefully, it means that you are losing weight rapidly, if that makes you feel any better.

I"m still on full liquids as well. Have had no problem with drinking SF carnation instant breakfast. It takes me about 45 minutes to get through 8 oz.. I do have trouble getting all my water in. I can usually manage about 4 cups not including the milk from the instant breakfast. I gained 16 lbs during my hospital stay and have lost all of that plus 15lbs. Good luck with your eating, hopefully your tastebuds will come back, and that is just a reaction to anesthesia!  I can have v8 and chicken broth which tastes great mixed together and heated up as a soup if you are sick of sweets.....

wow.. I am so excited to find this forum!

I have been doing well on my fluids actually.  Between 48-50 oz of water.  2 cups of milk and 2 ounces of grape juice mixed with water.

For "meals" I have had cream of wheat with splenda and cinnamon, cream soups (split pea is my favorite so far), Fage yogurt with strawberry protein powder was awesome.

I'm able to hit between 1/3 cup and 1/2 cup at meals - which I think is pretty good.

I've really had no problems swallowing my vitamins or tylenol.

Anyone else thinking they are ready to go back to work after one week?  I'm really surprised at how great I feel!  I was up 12 pounds when I came home from the hospital and today hit my surgery day weight.  Hopefully tomorrow I will hit the Losers bench for real!

Dr. Benn gave me an incredible tool.. and I intend to make the most out of it!!
