Your points are all logical and well taken; thanks for the perspective. I am so glad you are now able to start to drink more and get your protein in.  I know that makes a big difference. And I do hope your chest pain lessens.

And who knows? As you say every body is differnt and things can change at any point in the process for all of us bioth good and bad - I will just keep doing things to the letter and be grateful for what is working.

Because the surgeon has to insert air in your abdomen in order to raise it and do the procedure, you will be left with that same air to get rid of on your own.  It's gas.  It will travel to various areas in your body and it is helpful for you to walk it out (by passing it from your backside).  The more you walk, the more it is expelled.

Hope this helps

I've read a lot of post also, but what I came up with is that everyone is different.  Like for me, I'm just now starting to drink like you and have those "taste buds" awaken again.  After the surgery, I could look at my favorite food network shows and feel absolutely nothing, but today I am not able to.  This is the first day that I can get all my protein in and I'm just now feeling better (energy wise).  Look at it as a blessing that you're able to drink and get your "requirements" in as recommended.  For the past week, I've felt so bad and hurt (knot in chest) everytime I attempt to drink anything no matter how slow.  Our bodies are different and because you are aware of what's happening...you will always be on top of it.

Keep us posted.

Yes,  I have experienced the hiccups.  I'm also "healing" a little slower than others I see.  Today is the first day that I could get liquids down without causing a knot in my chest.  I don't know what the cause of it was.  This is also the first day that I had enough energy to walk for at least 20 minutes.  I can honestly say that I finally feel like I made the right decision.  I also lost right much weight in one week.  I was a little worried about that also.

Try walking more than a few minutes... You may not be moving enough to get the gas broken up.

Make sure you change positions often.. Bed, chair, walk - go ge****er.. sit forward in the chair, tuck your legs to the side.  The more you move, the better you will feel.

The heating pad helped me tremendously!  I alternated putting it on my back and on my tummy.. Gently massaging my belly got things "moving" too and didn't hurt at all.  It was actually soothing.

Good luck.. I hope you feel better soon.

p.s. I had surgery 6 days ago and have been driving since Saturday - went shopping, ran errands, am doing laundry and changing sheets today then off to the dry cleaners.  I really think the reason I'm doing so well is I have been getting 64 ounces of fluid in every day AND moving as much as possible.  Keep moving and sipping.. you'll get there real soon!

Dr. Benn gave me an incredible tool.. and I intend to make the most out of it!!

I'm glad I'm not the only one whose tastes have changed. (I wish I had realized this before buy 24 four-packs of Muscle Milk Light!) Everything tastes much sweeter to me. The only proteint that I've been tolerating has been Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard Whey. (It belongs to my son who uses it for body building, go figure. But it's low in carbs and tastes oddly better than it did before surgery.)

Water is okay but I find it tastes a little funny. For variety, I've been adding to 10 calorie Vitamin Water and diet cranberry juice. I'm not really sure if I'm hungry yet or just having strong desires to eat. Someone told me that they started to crave protein and I guess I'll have to wait for that "sign".

I have starting to have the telltale hiccup when I've had "enough". Anyone else experience that? (It's not so pleasant but tolerable.)

I have all these same fears as well.  But just keep thinking about how good you feel seeing the scale go down.  Focus on one day at a time.  You can do it.. =)

Topic: RE: 3 days out
Well, a little update. I'm now 7 days out and feel good to great. First night out of the recliner and into the bed last night. Not such a good nights sleep. May go back to the recliner for a couple more days. Pain wise i'm doing great. No pain meds yesterday or today and barring someone kicking me in the gut, i'm probably done with them. I'm on stage 2 diet (mushy) and so far i've been able to eat and keep down everything i've tried. Even had a little(very little) watermelon yesterday. I go back Thurs. to get my drains out and hopefully get a little time table on when I can resume "normal" activities(minus the chowing down!).
