Topic: anyone else on liquids only for two weeks post op?
Thanks all!
i had my surgery done on june 30th. For the first wee****il tomorrow i am on clear liquids only. In other words i am living off of sugar free popsicles and jello and water. (really cannot have anymore broth!) Then next week it is full liquids. They say things like cream of whea****ered down so it falls off of a spoon, creamy soups strained. My nurse said that with laparscopic, everything is done on a smaller scale or something so it is easier to undo it or something. (I am finding that this has kind of been like having babies. You can prepare all you want, but after the actual thing, you wonder if your doing it all right!) Well anywho, I am wondering if anyone knows about this and maybe some liquid suggestions? I am not really hungry, mentally when i cook for the husband or kids I thing I am hungry, but once i think about actually eating, I decide that really I am not. But, I am wondering what i could add next week besides the cream of whea****ered down and cream soups.

Topic: How are you June 11th people doing?
I lost 16 lbs. during 2 week pre-op. And since surgery on June 11th, I have lost 17 lbs! How is everyone doing with the measuring and eating? I am now, eating fish, cottage cheese, cheese, eggs, yogurt, peanut butter and peanuts. Still having a hard time with portions. Is anyone having any problems? I am having a real hard time with water! Just can't get enough down during the day.

I couldn't stand it before, so I find it very odd that I like it so much now!

Topic: RE: Another June 17 RNY here!!!
Another June 17th RNY sister here - just wanted to connect.
Just under 3 weeks out and doing pretty good. Keeping a positive attitude and starting to work on my exercise more. Very happy to have finally had the surgery done and to be on the other side of this! Woo-hoo
I juggle some fears every day (of eating too much/too little, living up to my own/doc's expectations, keeping my health balanced and steady without complications, dealing with flabby skin, etc.), but mostly I feel excited for the future. In 6 months we will all be so changed...I can't wait to see the progress....this does feel at times like watching a long nutured dream fianlly come true.

Sounds like you are doing great! I'm wondering if I should be getting more protein...but the doctor said clears the first wee****il post-op nut class (Tuesday can't come soon enough!). I'm on chicken broth, water, jello, SF banana flavored popcicles, and applesauce (to get my prilosec down...have to open capsules still). My head is absolutely killing me (I have IH, which causes headaches, but I can't help but wonder if the lack of protein, etc is making things worse). One other thing that concerns me is that I haven't had a BM, yet (sorry if TMI). Not sure if that is an issue or not...figuring I've been on clears there's not much to go out that side. :) But, I feel incredibly full after just a few sips of water or a few bites of jello.
I'm a side sleeper, too...last night was my first night in the bed since I came home. I had been camped out in our overstuffed recliner...it was just so much more comfortable. I wanted to roll to my side, but the incisions wouldn't let me just yet. So, I slept on my back with my knees propped up a bit with a pillow. I did pretty well.
How is every one else doing???

Yeah, before it started I asked if I could be given anything and they had said no. I was shocked and more than a little disappointed! I didn't get cath'ed til after I was asleep so that was nice not having to be awake for that anyway. I am so glad it is over too. Today is by far my best day yet. I am even having an easier time getting out of our comfy recliner which was a challenge to start with. What they say is sure right on...walk, walk, walk and it will speed up the recovery. How are you feeling g/f?

Hi Jody!
I am a side-sleeper too. I struggled a lot this first week sleeping too. I was lucky that my husband took off work for the week to tend to the kids (ages 6 & 3,) but it was still tough to really get good sleep. I finally stopped taking the pain meds (tylenol w/ codeine) because they really were not helping me sleep much... almost making me a little rammy. So two nights ago I switched to taking one Simply Sleep pill (like a tylenol pm type thing) and I have been sleeping better. I noticed that the right side is easier than the left too.
Things I'm eating.. well drinking! I bought Unjury Protein supplements, which are 20 g of protein in one scoop. It's hard for me to get the full shake down (8oz) but I have been having half, putting it in the fridge, and sipping on the rest in an hour or so when I feel hungry. I make a shake with the chocolate unjury, some milk, etc... I have experimented also with a smoothie shake, used the unflavored protein powder with banana, frozen strawberries, etc..... so those shakes seem to be getting me by. I have the chicken soup flavored protein powder too.. I add a scoop to a mug of ho****er, stir well and have some chicken soup broth. It is good tasting. Not amazing... but good enough for me to say mmmm this is tasty and I'm getting decent protein. I am also eating popsicles and jello occasionally. It's been almost a week, and I'd really love to chew something!
Have a great 2nd week everyone!

Hi Nancy! I am so glad to hear from you. Glad you are feeling well. My big problem is sleeping. I am a dyed in the wool side sleeper and I haven't managed to do it without left side pain deluxe. I hate the grogginess of the pain meds, so I avoid them, but I sure need some rest. What are you eating liquid-wise? Jody
Topic: RE: i need to drink more water
I drink the Small Lemonade from Sonic it is 5 calories and 1 gram of sugar. I am extremely sensitive to sugar right now, still on nausea meds actually, but I have had no problems with the Lemonade. It takes me almost all day to drink the small (small sips in between water), but it's a nice treat and variation from water and Crystal Light.
