NG tube anybody?

I hope nobody had to have a wonderful (NOT) NG tube...I wouldn't wi**** on my worst enemy. I got out of surgery and the next morning had a scan done and my pouch wasn't emptying. Waited awhile and nothing happened so they had to put the NG tube down my nose all the way to my pouch. Once it got to around the top of my sternum then I had to swallow it down. Ugh. It ranked right up there with child birth I tell ya! For those who don't know what it does (I didn't) they then hook it to a vacuum pump and leave it in there til the swelling of the pouch goes down and the pouch can run the way its supposed to. During the night it came out part way too and so they had to put it back down. I am sooo very very glad that that is just a distant memory now! Hope nobody else drew that short straw!

That sounds absolutely terrible!!!!!!!!!!!!!   GOOD LORD!  They would have needed to fill me up with dilaudid for that experience.  (they DID shoot some in the IV to straight cath me.... my nurse was amazing!)  lol...

I'm glad that's OVER for you!  Welcome home!  How are you feeling now?

Yeah, before it started I asked if I could be given anything and they had said no. I was shocked and more than a little disappointed! I didn't get cath'ed til after I was asleep so that was nice not having to be awake for that anyway. I am so glad it is over too. Today is by far my best day yet. I am even having an easier time getting out of our comfy recliner which was a challenge to start with. What they say is sure right on...walk, walk, walk and it will speed up the recovery. How are you feeling g/f?

I'm glad you're starting to feel better!  I'm good!  I am excited to be hitting the 2 week post-op point and starting to try some new foods.  Sheesh!  There are only so many protein shakes and cups of broth I can take!
