Very much confused!
I have researched the Lap Band and the RNY and I still don't know which way to go. I have so many fears in my mind. I'm totally confused, just dont know which way to go............ I know I need to lose weight and have tried everything on the market, but I'm still afraid I will not be able to give up my sweets.....
I can tell you that only YOU can make that decision, but your doctor should give you some advice based on how much weight you need to lose. My thought process was that if I'm going for it, then I'm going all out with the RNY. I had my 4 month surgeversary this past Monday and I have lost 95lbs as of today. With the sweets, you definately need to be prepared mentally before having the surgery. You have to ask yourself, what is more important? Chocolate? or Yourself? I hope this helps. If you have any more questions or thoughts, you are more than welcome to contact me.
There are many factors to consider before making a decision. For example: How much weight do you need to lose? What, if any, ailments do you have? Do you have any digestive issues? Can you limit your sweets intake to a tiny bit once a week, or will you just keep eating until you get sick?
I had decided on the bypass (Roux-en-Y) and had mentally prepared myself to give up carbs and fats. I had 100 lbs to lose and had mild diabetes. To my disappointment, my rheumatologist suggested that I do the band, instead, so that's what I did two weeks ago. Now, I'm glad that I did so, because I want to be able to eat everything that I ate before, but in just smaller quantities. In the long run, will the band be as successful for me as the RNY? Only time will tell. In the meantime, you might want to look at my blog.
You need to go to a number of seminars given by different doctors/hospital, read everything on the net, speak to all of your doctors and to as many people as possible who have had the band and the RNY. Make a list of the pros and cons and think really hard about them. Be brutally honest with yourself about what you "want" and not just what you think you ought to do.
Good luck.
