Good morning Newbies.  I have a question. How is everyone doing with the liquid intake and what type of things are you drinking/eating at this point?
Hope everyone is doing well.  Please also comment on what challenges you are experiencing at this poing.
For me, the liquid intake is a struggle.  My taste buds have changed and I'm not liking much of anything.  I had cream of wheat last night with a protein pack.  That went really well.  But for the liquids...yuk!  Any suggestions?  Thanks.
BTW, I'm still on liquids for another week.
Thanks.

Yesterday I got in about 34 ounces of water, about 1/2 shake and a little broth.  I am going to work a little harder on it today.  It is harder than I would have imagined.

That's pretty good intake from where I stand.  I can only do 1/2 shake also at this point.  I guess I just need to be patient and continue to work on it.  Thanks.

I haven't noticed any taste changes.  The shakes were gross when I started, and remain disgusting.  I don't think of them as food, I think of them as medicine, and don't breathe through my nose for 10 minutes after I swallow them.  I still like water, just like I always did.  Actually, I got burned out on sugar substitute even before surgery, so I haven't tried the crystal light or jello.  My 10 year old brought me a popsicle yesterday, and I ate it, but didn't like the splenda aftertaste.  Water is by far the easiest thing to drink, and I'm getting plenty of that - over 48 ounces yesterday.  I also have some V8 Strawberry Banana Fusion light, which has enough flavor in it to knock out the sweetener.  I've tolerated that in 4 ounce quantities.  Plain old 1% milk is also tasty to me and easy to drink in 2-4 ounce amounts.  I'd have to say over half my liquids are plain water.

While the weight loss is easier with surgery, the lifestyle is harder.

I feel like I'm doing pretty well on my liquids.  I'm having SF jello, lots of water, protein shakes in either water or non-fat milk as well as broth.  I can also have yogurt but I don't care much for it but I will be trying it too.

I am meeting my protein goals and my clear liquid goals.  I'm a little light on the full liquid goals.  I feel pretty sloshy/full by the end of the day!

My surgery was Monday.  I came home 5 lbs heavier than I went in and now am 2lbs heavier so I think I'm doing ok for now!

wow.. I am so excited to find this forum!

I have been doing well on my fluids actually.  Between 48-50 oz of water.  2 cups of milk and 2 ounces of grape juice mixed with water.

For "meals" I have had cream of wheat with splenda and cinnamon, cream soups (split pea is my favorite so far), Fage yogurt with strawberry protein powder was awesome.

I'm able to hit between 1/3 cup and 1/2 cup at meals - which I think is pretty good.

I've really had no problems swallowing my vitamins or tylenol.

Anyone else thinking they are ready to go back to work after one week?  I'm really surprised at how great I feel!  I was up 12 pounds when I came home from the hospital and today hit my surgery day weight.  Hopefully tomorrow I will hit the Losers bench for real!

Dr. Benn gave me an incredible tool.. and I intend to make the most out of it!!

I"m still on full liquids as well. Have had no problem with drinking SF carnation instant breakfast. It takes me about 45 minutes to get through 8 oz.. I do have trouble getting all my water in. I can usually manage about 4 cups not including the milk from the instant breakfast. I gained 16 lbs during my hospital stay and have lost all of that plus 15lbs. Good luck with your eating, hopefully your tastebuds will come back, and that is just a reaction to anesthesia!  I can have v8 and chicken broth which tastes great mixed together and heated up as a soup if you are sick of sweets.....

I am on the shakes and puree and I ended up using the slim fast shakes with skim milk, I can drink them all the others YUCK.
I am struggling getting my pills and vitamins down, I am not feeling dehydrated and not drinking too much. I hope this isn't a problem.
Good luck

I'm glad I'm not the only one whose tastes have changed. (I wish I had realized this before buy 24 four-packs of Muscle Milk Light!) Everything tastes much sweeter to me. The only proteint that I've been tolerating has been Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard Whey. (It belongs to my son who uses it for body building, go figure. But it's low in carbs and tastes oddly better than it did before surgery.)

Water is okay but I find it tastes a little funny. For variety, I've been adding to 10 calorie Vitamin Water and diet cranberry juice. I'm not really sure if I'm hungry yet or just having strong desires to eat. Someone told me that they started to crave protein and I guess I'll have to wait for that "sign".

I have starting to have the telltale hiccup when I've had "enough". Anyone else experience that? (It's not so pleasant but tolerable.)

Yes,  I have experienced the hiccups.  I'm also "healing" a little slower than others I see.  Today is the first day that I could get liquids down without causing a knot in my chest.  I don't know what the cause of it was.  This is also the first day that I had enough energy to walk for at least 20 minutes.  I can honestly say that I finally feel like I made the right decision.  I also lost right much weight in one week.  I was a little worried about that also.
