Hey guys, so I had my RNY on Tuesday, was released from the hospital yesterday, and I am clueless as to what I am supposed to be eating/ drinking.  At the hospital they had me sipping 1-2 oz of apple juice or water an hour, the surgeon printed a few pages for me as to what I'm supposed to be eating but it doesn't seem right.  It says I should be drinking 10 oz of isopure for breakfast, there is no way I can drink that much!  PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE give me some feedback and let me know what I'm supposed to be doing.  Thanks!!

I think you should be calling your surgeon. I don't think you should be taking 10 oz of anything at one time. Or call your dietician.  Mine has been really helpful. Every doctor sends there patient home on somehting diffierent it seems like. I came home on pureed foods but since my pouch is onlky 4 oz there is no way I could hold anything at once that is 10 oz.

I agree that 10oz is way too much.  I would stay on the 1 to 2 oz and see how you feel.  I believe most everyone can do up to 4 oz at the beginning, but I am taking it very slow.  I am 2 days out and if I go too fast I have some come right back up.  I am even taking a small sip and then slowly releasing into my throat to keep it small.  I am measuring eveything out to see how I am progressing on my water and protein.

Every journey begins with a single step.

I agree with the others. 10 ounces is far too much. When I was released, I was lucky if I could get two teaspoons of liquid in me.. I have a really good protein drink that I got in Michigan post-op. It tastes like a mocha.. If you need a change of flavor, let me know and I'll look on one of my bottles.. Can't remember the name off hand.

Call your dietician, they're very helpful. I'm two years out and feel great. I
still struggle now with getting in the 8 glasses of water a day that my doc wants me drinking..

Keep me posted and good luck..

My God no way you could do that, I am drinking a 5 ounce protien shake at one time and that takes me about 15 minutes or so. Also get your water in but all in good time, in other words sips all day is about all you should be doing.
However I do think you should contact your doctors office and get the nutritionist to contact you and help you with the menu for the next few months.
Take care and good luck.

Thanks for all the replies guys!  My surgeon did actually call me back after I harassad the nurses over and over and over again, I even had one nurse tell me to drink 7-up!  Can you believe that?!  But he told me that 10 oz was the max and I should try to just drink 4-6 oz.  I am still having a really hard time drinking even that!!  Kinda sucks cuz I don't have a set diet from my surgeon but I'm still trying my best :/
