Starting liquids on Monday June 1st
My surgery is june 15th. I start my liquids on June 1st. I am so nervous...so afraid I can't do it...but I know I can.
I am all prepared. I have my protein powder, banana cream, strawberry, vanilla and cookies n' cream...all to be mixed with skim milk.
I have my surger free popsicles and jello, crystal light and water of course....
Some of you are talking about protein bars...I don't think ym diet allows for those...it's not liquid!
Please tell me hoe you have or are working through your liquid diet...and is anyone able to work out during thi- I am afraid I will have no energy

I'm on my 3rd day of my liquid diet, I only have to do a week, and I'm doing surprisingly well! I was nervous at first too, but I think as long as you have the right mindset you'll be fine. The first day my blood sugar was all over the place, I'm borderline diabetic, but now it's back to normal. I was also tired at first too and a little dizzy, but today all that seems to be better. The only issue I've had is I think I'm lactose intolerant. After 48oz of milk I became very sick! I'm supposed to have 6 shakes a day. I used to drink milk before, but never like this obviously. I've switched to lactaid, but still not 100%. I may try soy or almond next if it doesn't get better. I have lost a couple of lbs already so that's a good motivator too. Just realizing that every lb lost will help my surgeon really pushes me. I haven't worked out, but plan on walking today since my energy is up and sugar is stable.
I'm on the 4th day of my liquid diet. I'll be honest, the first two days sucked. Not so much that I was hungry.... but I missed eating. It was an emotional thing for me.
I eased into it slowly.... the first three days I ate some raw carrots and celery (I'm allowed to have 12oz per day)..... but so far today, it's been liquids only. I'm up to 500 calories right now.... and to be honest, I'm really not hungry.
Kinda cool, considering I'm used to eating over 2000 calories per day (blush).

Melissa, as you know I'm on the same diet as you. The first week was honestly not that bad for me with wanting food. But this week has been hell! I want to taste, chew, lick, eat everything! It's killing me but I know it's just a few more days.
I definitely have been more tired and lacked energy. I had to cut a couple of workouts at the gym short because I just couldn't go on. I think I figured out the trick though. I make sure to go right after I've had a protein shake and I do the most strenuous part of my workout first - like the treadmill or the elliptical. Then I'll do my weights and end with the bike (since I can sit down and take it a little easier.) I've been able to make it through the last couple of workouts using this system. I'm a little scared of working out after surgery though, afraid I'll be as weak as I am now... I guess we'll see what happens.
The two weeks definitely mess with your head but I have to believe the end result is going to be more than worth it for all of us!

Thanks Melissa I really appreciate it. Hard to believe it's only about 1 1/2 days away after all this waiting and thinking about it for years and years. Hope the liquids go well for you, it wasn't too bad for me until my PMS started the other day and then it was torture but I made it through mostly ok. See you soon!

Melissa, it is great to find someone else having surgery on June 15. I start the liquids tomorrow also, but I have been substituting one or two meals for several weeks with supplements. The only thing I am concerned with is the lack of energy that comes the first few days. Let's keep in touch. It will be interesting to compare our progress.
sure...I started off my morning today by going to the hospital for my upper gi and chest xray...got to drink barium for the first thing, yay! It wasn't too bad. Now I am sippingon my 12oz banana creme protein shake. I will do the same for lunch, but strawberry flavor and have some protein jello before dinner....and a vanilla shake for dinner...
I feel so strong today, like I can do this- lets just see if I feel that way tonight!
