Topic: First two days of eating that I feel normal...
I had surgery jun 30th and have been on solid food for 2 weeks... yesterday was the first day that I was able to eat and everything really felt normal. I didn't get bloated with gas, I didn't have gurgles, I didn't have to concentrate so much. I felt like a normal sized person eating a normal meal all day every meal... My digestive track is now running on a more normal schedule also...I am so excited about all of this and though it would give some of you still not feeling so normal something to look forward to..I was starting to think that things would never get to that point... I also pushed past my first two week stall with a healthy 3 lb drop....Yeah....I am also now going to the gym and doing 1.25 miles on the tread mill in 30 minutes keeping my heart rate at 120 for 25 minutes and then at 125 for 10 minutes. I will be adding in some weight training next week if all goes well.

Your doctor will do fills along the way to find what works for you. Don't be afraid to tell him hey it ain't working, jack it up Doc!!! LOL Honestly tell him. Thats the thing with LAP. It doesn't really take the hunger away and you have to keep getting fills till you find the right fit. Don't let him make you think this is a failure. Go over to the LAP forum and those folks will tell you just what you need to do. When he fills it ask him if you can't go alittle more. If it is to much they can take fluid back out. Be insistant. You won't be a failure!

The biggest part of lap band problem is the fact that you have to diet...You still absorb everything in what you eat... The second is that people still eat like they always have just in smaller amounts...but if you are eating all day little bits here and there it is no help...Grazing is a huge problem with RNY, too. There is a whole lot will power in any of the surgeries...Rny is the same, some days I would really love to eat all day and someday I will be able to and that scares me...I was never a grazer, but could easily becomeone if I don't change my ways... Try to make an appointment with a behavioral modification psychotherapist to get some ideas on helping with the head hunger issues or hit a support group meeting..

I got my lap-band on June 25 this year. I lost about 15 initially with the liquid diet. I gained back a few. I just received my first fill and still not good results. I don't think this is going to work for me. I am hungry and just don't seem to have much luck. Most days I get 1200 calories or less by pure will power. Today I probably doubled that. My doctor said this would not work for everyone, but I sure wish I was having better luck. Anyone have the same experience and helpful hints?

Topic: RE: Research
I researched the different types of surgery for about 4-5 months before I decided. I went to a seminar given by the surgeon and hospital I was planning to use. I visited with my surgeon, gave him my goals and went with his advise. I decided on the sleeve because of some advantages. However your Doctor would be the best to advise you on what procedure is for you. Once I made up my mind I had the procedure done within 3 weeks. I am now 5 weeks out from surgery. I have lost 26 lbs. and am doing okay. Portion control is much easier to stick with and sweets were my downfall and I don't seem to crave sweets as much as before the surgery.

Don't worry. I had my lap band surgery on 6/24/08. As of today I've only lost a total of 18 pounds. I read all these posts about people who have lost 30/40/50 pounds by now and get discouraged sometimes too. We have to remember that they have different cir****tances than us. They may have started with a higher weight, stuck to the clear liquid diet longer than us, etc. Also, 14 pounds of weight loss in a month is nothing to sneeze at. Have you had your first fill yet? I also was feeling like I was hungry and eating a lot lately. I felt like I could eat anything I wanted and even had a hamburger (with a bun) yesterday. But, today I got my first fill so I'm expecting to go back to the way it was right after I had surgery. My friend works at a lap band company and she explained to me that after surgery you loose weight because you are on the liquid diet and because your tummy is swollen and won't let you eat much and lowers your appetite. After the swelling goes down though, you don't have any restriction. Also, once you loose a little weight the fat pad around your tummy shrinks, making the band looser. So, unless you've had a fill you basically just have a band hanging around your stomach - not really doing anything at this point. So, essentially you don't even have the lap band at this point if you haven't had a fill. I hope this helps. Good luck!!!
