Topic: RE: Worried too soon!?
Hi
I think you are worried too soon. a 40 pound weight loss is terrific but I would say not a great indication of wether or not you will need plastics. Dr is correct, the younger you are the more elastic your skin is so the better it will be. I had my surgery on June 17 and so far have lost 65 pounds. I too worry about plastics but am more concerned right now with my overall health and making sure I take int he nutrients required to stay healthy and happy.

May i suggest you take one day at a time and focus on getting the weight off rather than the potential problems associated with this surgery. As far as gall bladder problems, I am sure you can find many many many people who have never had gall bladder problems. I truly believe ti is  the luck of the draw. Your diet can affect the gall bladder, having had mine out (preop, 7 years ago while pregnant) I can only strongly urge you to watch the consumption of fatty foods and drink lots of water!

Take care and good luck.

Topic: RE: Strictures- Worst Case Scenario?
Finally yesterday I started to feel better. I've been able to eat a little more without the nausea. It's probably the best I've felt so far. They didn't put me on any medicine specifically for the stricture, but they put me on Reglan for the nausea when I was in the hospital and they've just kept me on it. I feel a little more normal now that I can do mushy foods, but I'd really like to be back to proteins again. Hopefully in a week or two. I can't wait until I can do fruits & vegetables!

Topic: RE: Strictures- Worst Case Scenario?
I just got my second stricture fixed.  The first time, I didn't know what was going on and I thought the pain/stuck feeling/ vomiting was a normal part of recovery and I suffered with it for a couple of weeks.  Now that I know better, the very first time I felt that way, I went back to the hospital and they fixed it quickly.  (that was Friday).  I feel fine afterward.  Last time I was eating regular food (in smaller portion sizes) for about a week before the stricture came back, I only had to be on liquids for two days each time.  I was told that sometimes, strictures have to be fixed multiple times because they can't stretch it out all at once.

I feel good, but if I have to go get it done again, I will.  I was put under twilight sleep and I don't remember anything, woke up with no pain.  If they open it up a little more each time, then it has to get better and better, right?  Right now, just two days after stricture repair, I am eating chicken (cut in small cubes)

Did they put you on any medicine?  I'm taking calafate, it's a ulcer med that helps the stricture heal.  Hang in there, it really does get better.

Topic: Strictures- Worst Case Scenario?
I am 9 and 1/2 weeks out, and I'm back on clear liquids. I feel like I made the biggest mistake of my life. I was hospitalized at 6 weeks post-op because I had a stricture and it took 3 days of not being able to even drink before any of my 3 doctor's offices would listen to me. I was so dehydrated I ended up back in the hospital for 5 days. The worst part is, while I was there, I picked up pneumonia, and came home and was in bed with that for a week

Two days ago I was back in the hospital for another dilation, a second stricture. I guess it was the same one, but just closed up again. That dilation hit me hard. I have been nothing but nauseous since. The doctor said I needed to start over on clear liquids and work my way back up again. It's been so long since I've eaten anything, I really don't even want to eat anymore.

Has anyone else ever dealt with multiple strictures? Does it ever get any better? I know it must, but I thought at 10 weeks out I'd be able to sit down to dinner with my family. The struggle with my head and my body is just so much worse because of everything I've been through. I can't eat soup, popsicles or jello anymore because I've just lived on it for so long. I'd like to find someone else who's had multiple strictures to reassure me that it gets better at some point?

Topic: RE: First Fill on Lap Band at 2 months - PROBLEMS!
Hi Carol,

Your experience definitely does not seem normal to me.  I think you should absolutely call your doctor!  I've had two fills now since my 6/25/08 surgery date and have experience nothing like what you describe.  Don't delay - call your doctor!

Topic: First Fill on Lap Band at 2 months - PROBLEMS!
I had my fist fill 2 days ago.  It has not been a good experience.  About 2 hours after the fill, I was trying to sip clear liquids and had a very bad experience for the whole day.  I would get hiccups, then over-salivate, then pain and vomiting.  Then I would feel OK for about 30 minutes, then the cycle would start over, hiccups, saliva, pain, vomit, good, hiccups, etc...

Has anyone else experienced this?  Day 2 was not much better, and today is day 3, I should be easing myself back into food, but I am too scared and haven't been able to do more than water for 2 days.  Should I be calling the doctor's office or is this normal?  I hope all the vomiting hasn't caused a band slippage.

Topic: Worried too soon!?

I may be worried too soon.  I had surgery on 7-1-08.  I started at 279 and am now 239.  When I want to feel better, I look at all the before & after pictures on this sight.  I read the profiles/stories about ones that started out close to my weight.  I haven't found anyone who hasn't had their extra skin removed, and most have had other medical problems b/c of the surgery.  I'm terrified to have this done and I don't want a gall bladder problem.  The doctor says I'm young (who'da thought late 30s is young) and my skin has a better chance to shrink pretty well. Is there anyone out there that looks and feels terrific without having the skin removed?  What kind of workouts would you recommend??

Congratulations!  I know that waiting for the answer can seem like ages.  If you don't hear from them within a week, call them.  My insurance lost my paperwork and I had to wait an extra week.  Keep them on their toes!!
