ONE MORE DAY!!!! I spoke with the anesthesiologist who has been assigned to my surgery tomorrow. She seems pretty certain that she can help me out. We'll see. Only 13 hours 45 minutes left to report to the hospital! Thanks for all your support everyone! Jules

Wow, a loss of 265 is quite an accomplisment. But that also tells me that you had a very high BMI at the start of this process. Re-gain is not entirely your fault - what a lot of WLS centers are finding now is that people w/ high pre-op BMIs do not keep the weight off after RnY - they need the DS - it provides more malabsorbtion and the small sleeve created out of the lesser curvature of the stomach is much less likely to stretch (this is what they told me here in IL at the University of Chicago when they turned me down for the DS - w/ a BMI of just under 40, I'm too skinny, HA!). You should look into getting a revision to a DS or just have your pouch reduced. What ever you do, go back to your original doctor and ask for help - this is a very hard thing to deal with on your own and you won't be the first person they've seen who's regained. If your doc does not do revisions I suggest you look up Dr. John Rabkin in San Fran - check him out at PacLap.com. YOU CAN OVERCOME THIS!!!!

My surgery is tomorrow. Excited and scared and running around like a chicken with my head cut off to get ready. Prayers and good wishes appreciated.

It is interesting to hear how different each doctor wants things! I am on clearn liquds and 5-6 8 oz. glasses of milkd (can add carnation instant breakfast) or have boost for 10 days prior to my pre-sugery day! Then the day before is just clearn liquids and drinking magnesium citrate to clean out the system. Today (day #2) was harder- and I TOTALLY agree that self talk and finding different things to do is keeping my focused! Good luck to all, and hmmm....here is to more clear liquids!

Topic: Support Groups - Raleigh
Hi, I am looking for guidance on any Obesity/Weight Loss Surgery suppot groups going on in the Raleigh area. I have applied for the surgery but am required to attend the support groups and the WLSC at Duke is not having any more support groups meeting until the end of July. This is unfortunately, part of the hold up in the processing of my application. I wasn't aware until recently that this was keeping me from being scheduled. When I finally heard back from the WLSC, they told me I was on "psych hold" because of this. As you know, it takes long enough to start with--getting scheduled and getting everything checked off the list. I have lost 2.5 months becuase I did not understand I was waiting on this, and was unable to reach someone regarding this question. Can someone give me a link to where other support groups in this area (Raleigh NC) will be meeting? Is there a list somewhere that I can pick from? Any help is very much appreciated. Thanks, D

You start at the beginning again. A lot of the surgeons are having patients go on Pre-op liquid diets. Of course I am not sure I would recommend this for 2 weeks, but to allow you to get control again, 2 or 3 days of protein shakes may be all you need to re-start your program. Just a thought. I am not a doctor, but I don't think it could hurt. You did it once, and I have every confidence that you can continue to do it. There is no stopping this program once you start it. It is a lifetime commitment.

Yes, I start mine next Monday! Surgery on the 25th. I have not received my packet, so I am unsure what my doctor's preference is yet. My husband and I will be cleaning out the pantry and the fridge this weekend. I am enjoying some of the things I know I will probably not eat for some time, but in very small portions. It's like goodbye. I agree that the self talk will probably get us through. That and talking to each other. Stay in touch. Marilyn
