Topic: RE: Surgery Approval
In my case, once we had the documentation they needed (rejected first time), my surgeon's office faxed in the request and I had the acceptance letter in less than a week.

I also got out of the hospital last Thursday. Our experiences sound much the same, however, I had an open RNY instead of the Lap RNY. In answer to someone's question, it is the same procedure internally, but the access to the stomach differs. Lap stands for laporoscopic. 6 (?) holes are put into the abdomen, and instruments are inserted into the holes to perform the RNY. For the open RNY, one long incision is made from the breastbone to the belly button to access the stomach for the RNY procedure. It seems that people that have the Lap RNY have more difficulty with gas from the surgery because the abdomen in "inflated" to allow more room for the surgeon to manuever. There is less risk of hernia and infection with the Lap than the Open precedure, though. I have also had thoughts of, "I volunteered for this?" and, "What have I done?" However, I just got back from my first post-op appointment. I've lost 7 pounds post-op. That's 32 pounds altogether so far. The adventure has just begun!

Well, it's been a long time sinec I stopped by for a chat. Don't know if any of my old pals are still around here, but if you're new, I'll share a quick report about my observations at this point. I've regained about 10-15 pounds. That's not too bad. If I'm dilligent about my carbs, I can scrub them off, but as soon as I start cheating again, I put them on, and pretty quickly. I can now eat anything I want, and have no tolerance issues. ALCOHOL: Whoa. My tolerance is all out of whack, and I've just decided to quit all together. It totally affects me differently than before, and I don't care for it. Other than that things are great, and I'm still walking on two legs, instead of hopping around on one. My disease isn't gone, but it's improved. Anyway, to those of you just getting started, have fun. It's a great ride!
