Topic: RE: about43 days out of open rny
I am doing well, I am less than two weeks out since my lap band and down about 5lbs on my scales. Not doing bad, eating my 1/2 cup food three times a day and two protein drinks. The protein drinks have 25grms protein each. I am walking 15-30 mins each day, wasnt able to before surgery. Because of my fluid on the brain. According to my pcp I lost 20lbs from 5-19- to 6-19-08. which I am very happy with surgery only being 6-10th
I am eating blended foods, its ok, eating mostly beans, they are not bad blended
I am glad to hear from you! I am sorry to hear you are having problems moving to soft diet...
Take care and keep me posted, how is the weight lose coming for you?
Topic: RE: Tricare dilemma!!
Hi Sandy,
I have Tricare and had my RNY on June 4th.
Tricare doesn't necessarily go according to BMI. They go by 100 lbs over ideal weight with A co-morbidity -OR- 200lbs over (or 2x) your ideal weight without a co-morbidity.
Do you see several doctors *****commend this surgery for you? If so, have them write a letter for you.
It's also in the hands of your surgeon who writes that final letter of request to Tricare.
To speed things along, I contacted Tricare Case Management and got in touch with the Transitional Care Nurse who approves/denies authorizations here in RI.
You can do the same by calling 1-800-977-7961.
Also, Tricare requires a Thyroid blood test prior to approving your submittal! There's nothing on any of the Tricare or HealthNet Federal Services sites that say this. They want to rule-out problems with your thyroid so make sure your PCP or surgeon sends you for this immediately.
I hope this has helped in some way. Good luck to you.
Jules

Topic: RE: Surgery Approval
I am feeling pretty good now. Walking a lot more. I was pretty sore on the left side at first. I still get tired easliy, but am going back to work on Tuesday. I took the docs advice and took a few weeks off to recover.
At first had some nausea too, but not very much. Had some meds to handle that. Biggest problem has been the gas issues, not very painful but just discomfort. Gas-X helps but doesn't completely eliminate the problem.
The doc has me on a 4 week post op liquid diet, this is getting pretty hard now. Previously it was just fine, but I am sick of liquids.

I see you had your surgery on a couple of weeks ago. I hope all is well. Can you give a little insight on what you're feeling now.

I can't believe how quickly the process went I asked my doctor on 3/27 what he thought. I'm excited and freaked out at the same time. Monday the liquid diet started and it has been hard.
Just wanted to get out there a say a few words. Good Luck everyone who's got surgery coming up soon.
