Anyone else starting soon? I start on Tuesday- milk and clear liquids! I am nervous, but know it is all leading me to my ultimate goal- my surgery! Love to hear how others are doing? My husband is well stocked and prepared! I hope I am too!

I am on day 8 of a sf clear liquid and protein (drinks only) diet. My surgeon won't let me have milk. I so miss milk. Anyway, don't worry, I haven't found the liquid diet to be that tough. I think it's all about the self talk, when we are faced with food. I've been able to tell myself that this is just a phase and it won't be forever. Sure some foods, but there are a lot of other edible options. Just drink as much as you want of those legal liquids and do the protein. It will stave off hunger pretty well.

Hi! I started my protein diet - no milk in any form - (three protein shakes a day and one high protein sensibly meal a day) on the 22nd. My surgery is the 4th. I'm not going to lie to you....The first week was H E L L for me! I was constantly hungry! Some of it was 'head' hunger. I simply kept myself busy and especially, kept my hands busy with crafts and such during the evening hours after dinner. I also kept great company with good friends and family who understand where I'm at and where I need to be. No snacks AT ALL in the house, including fruit because it's not on my diet menu right now! With great support, so far, I've lost 18.5 pounds. My doc wanted me to lose 10 - 20 pounds pre-op. Tomorrow is my last day of eating my ONE sensible meal then the day before surgery it's ALL clear liquids and four shakes and nothing after midnight. Then.....it's show time! Good luck with your diet! Jules

Yes, I start mine next Monday! Surgery on the 25th. I have not received my packet, so I am unsure what my doctor's preference is yet. My husband and I will be cleaning out the pantry and the fridge this weekend. I am enjoying some of the things I know I will probably not eat for some time, but in very small portions. It's like goodbye. I agree that the self talk will probably get us through. That and talking to each other. Stay in touch. Marilyn

It is interesting to hear how different each doctor wants things! I am on clearn liquds and 5-6 8 oz. glasses of milkd (can add carnation instant breakfast) or have boost for 10 days prior to my pre-sugery day! Then the day before is just clearn liquids and drinking magnesium citrate to clean out the system. Today (day #2) was harder- and I TOTALLY agree that self talk and finding different things to do is keeping my focused! Good luck to all, and hmmm....here is to more clear liquids!

I just started my liquid diet on Monday. Monday was awful! My surgeon's protocol for the diet is 3 slim fasts a day, and then unlimited chicken broth, sugar free popsicles, diet drinks. 8-10 eight ounce glasses of water a day. The water has been difficult for me to get in. Monday was bad. My sugar went high after the slimfast and then crashed leaving me feeling bad, THEN I got a migraine around 10 am. I was puking my guts up. AWFUL~!! I was about to give up after just one day! But thankfully, the rest of the week has went well, I'm not getting as hungry. Still had headaches, but not bad ones. I won't say that I wouldn't love a hamburger though......

I hear the protein drinks are more bearable if they are really cold. I will be cleaning out my pantry this weekend. I asked my husband to try to eat before he gets home for the first few days of my Pre-op diet. This made him happy. I am sorry to hear you were sick the first day. The hamburger only sounds good in your head. Think of it as an obstacle to what you want to accomplish. You can do it.

Tomorrow is day 8- and things are getting better. I am really spreading my milk with carnation instant breakfast out better, and filling in with different things (broth, jello, popsicles, water, propel, and crystal light). I think it just takes some time to figure things out! Sorry to hear you were getting sick, I have just been really tired a lot- lack of food! It is ALL WORTH IT THOUGH! I have my surgery on Friday at 7:00 AM. I am getting really excited and really nervous! Best of luck to all of you who are on liquids and even more positive thoughst as your surgery day approaches!
