Topic: RE: I hit a major stall wall and need help
Dear Pam, my surgery sister:
You have overcome the biggest hurdle....beating cancer.
I get in around 70-80 protein a day. I'm still eating by the clock...a protein drink in the am after my first cup of coffee. Then I drin****il 12 noon. at 12:30 it's lunch.
Tuna, chicken, roast beef, ham, cheese. I've also taken a liking to chicken burgers but usually finish 1/2 to 3/4.
I start drinking again and if I remember to stop before dinner I'm lucky. If I dan't get dinner down, I just stop eating and wait until the fullness feeling passes (usually I get the burps when I'm full)
I can eat steak, hamburger, pork...just about anything most days. Breads don't agree with me but I eat Wheat Thins reduced fat.
I have maintained 146-150 for 3-4 months now. I'm happy with that as I'm 5'4". I wear a 10 pant, medium top.
As far as exercise, I try to walk every day. I always get in stair time..taking laundry up and down and lift a 5-10 lb hand weight. My knees and neck have arthritis pretty bad, so I hear you getting it in every day. The weather can really dictate how much I do.
Big hugs to you.

Topic: RE: I NEED A SWIFT KICK!!!
Alice, I don't believe you actually gained half a pound! you are allowed pasta occasionally and even though diet pop is a trigger for a lot of people, drinking it itself will not cause a gain!
Becky is right, quit beating yourself up. You have 50 or so years to learn how to do this maintenance thing (let me know how once you figure it out!), you are going to have real food once in awhile.
give yourself a range of 5 lbs or so and only freak out if you go above it. when i thought my scale was broken cause it jumped up 6 pounds in April, I realized I had treated myself to regular half and half in my coffee at the end of tax season. i'm back to skim milk now and bumped up my exercise.
Like Becky said, if you eat more, exercise for an extra 15 minutes.
you can do this, hang tough!
hugs, judi
Topic: RE: I NEED A SWIFT KICK!!!
Alice...you dont need a kick..you are normal. I have been stalled for a couple months now and am in a constant battle not to eat junk. I notice I am grazing more than I should and its starting to tick me off. Results seem to be my biggest motivator and when I havent lost any weight for so long it kinda feels like..."why bother"
So I have a day here and there that I know I have over eatern...or eaten too much of the wrong thing. But I leave that in that day and start new the next day.
You're not alone, its happening to a lot of us.
Don't let it get you down or take over. If you want an ice cream cone...then have ONE...a small one and then do an extra 15 to 30 mins when you walk tonight. Remember this isnt about doing without but eating in moderation the right foods in the right combinations and making good choices.
You can do it!!

Topic: I NEED A SWIFT KICK!!!
I am so disappointed in myself. For the first time in a year I had a gain of 1/2 pound at TOPS last night. I know it's only 1/2 pound... But the problem is I know what I did wrong. I ate some pasta salad on the 4th and it went down well.. so I just had to finish the rest of it in the next couple of days. After all it did have kidney beans and Spam in it .. so there was my protien. Then I drank 1 diet pepsi.. and a Siera Mist..over the week end.. this is something I have not allowed myself. And a scoop of ice cream cone .. 2 different times.. and then grazed on tasteless soda crackers. Boredom and laziness.
I see myself getting into my OLD bad habits. if I let myself. 1/2 pound a week is 25 1/2 pounds in a year.
Stop it Alice.. Stop it!!
Thank you for listening. I am the only one that can control what i put into my hand and then into my mouth.
I wish my leg was long enuff to kick myself. I will get this under control..
I have been under alot of emotional stress the last couple of weeks.. but it is not a good excuse.
Thanks again for always being there for me. Love You All!! Alice

I know it may sound trite, but having gotten through the cancer is such a success for you! Maybe your body just needs to luxuriate in that accomplishment?
I think your conversation with the nutritionist is better than any advice we can give you. She'll know what you went through with both the cancer and WLS. You may want to schedule some weekly or bi-weekly visits for a while to get your head and body aligned. It's kind of like you're starting all over again with WLS.
Woman, if you don't take the prize for perseverence, I don't know who does. Keep working it - you'll get there!

Thanks Judi
I guess just the fact that I am paying attention to the scale is a big victory. That is what got me into this in the first place.
My NUT is going to go over two weeks of food diaries for me to see what she can suggest.
Thnks alot
You look Great.

Pam, the important thing is that the cancer is in remission. big hugs to you!
when I was stuck at 183 FOREVER, someone suggested I knock off 100 calories a day and add 15 minutes of exercise to what I was doing. Now I am stuck between 170-173! (this is a good thing)
Drink more liquids, peppermint tea is very soothing to me, and try to go for small walks. I am taking a "masters" swimming class where she works our butts off! The fact that I signed up for the class makes me go and I feel better on swimming days than any other day of the week.
Best of luck to you honey. You will continue to lose. Your body might just be holding on to calories because it has been fighting the cancer battle with you.
hang in there!
love, judi
Topic: I hit a major stall wall and need help
Good morning Junesters
I have hit a major wall since March, and need of help.
Here is my issue. I had cancer and radiation to deal with in January and February. My dr gave me strict orders not to lose weight during this process. They upped my protien to 105-120 grams a day. My Doctor recommends 73-79. I went in for one of my appt and had dropped 9 pounds. The nurse didn't know I had RNY and tore me a new one.
Since then, I cannot seem to drop any weight. I do know that I have to trim back my protien, but am finding it hard to do. They had me eating 9 times a day. I know that part of it is psycolocigal from the major scolding from the nurse.
I just don't know how to get over this.
If anyone would share what they are eating and when, I would appreciate it. I also know I have to up my exercise, but some days that is easier said than done.
Any advise is greatly appreciated.
Pam
