The parathyroid thing I can't answer, but I too had a complete hysterectomy in 2005 and had a lot of hormonal imbalance since the WLS. Are you taking a hormone supplement? It not take long after surgery to figure out the pill was not staying long enough in my system to do me any good. After about 2 months, they put me on a hormone patch, which seems to have adjusted my hormone levels. Although I do feel warmer now more than ever, I don't believe they are hot flashes. Get on the vitamins, as those are important, and get a B12 shot as often as they will allow, even 1x week. I ask every doctor I see to give me one...usually once a month for sure. Good luck and take care.

Topic: RE: Anyone else having problems with low blood sugar?
I have had low blood sugar issues since about 3 months out. When I had issues, I carried glucose tablets with me. I usually always make sure that I have a protien bar in my purse. I was told to make sure that I have something protien based every 2 - 3 hours. I found that regular life savers have about the same sugar content as the glucose tablet and they taste way better. It picks your sugar level up enough until the protien can be digested to keep it up. Orange juice works too, but I dump on OJ. Need to be careful with our sensitive little pouches. Best of luck. Pam

Katie, Generally every doctor has different levels. I would give the NUT at your Dr office a call and see what they say at this point. For my, I was not given a calorie intake. My protien is 73 grams, fat is 37 and no more than 2 grams of sugar in anything I eat. The protien levels they varied depending on your starting weight and goal weight. Best of luck Pam

I posted this on the wrong board yesterday, DUH! At first I thought no big deal I am a little shakey I just need to eat something. Well then it started happening more often and I realized I had just eatten something about an hour or 2 before it happened. I got one of my father in law's monitors and have started testing when I start getting shakey. I called my surgeon's office ( We have moved to another state so I can't go in to see him) and he sent me for some blood work a week and a half ago, but I haven't gotten the results yet. My biggest scare with it came when I was on my way home from the beach with my daughter. We had been riding for about 3 hours and I stopped for gas and potty breaks. I got out and we went to the restroom and felt fine. Then went out to pump the gas and got REALLY shakey. I felt really confused about everything. I knew what I needed to do to pump the gas but it was like I was having a hard time going through the steps. It was very scarey. I checked my sugar and it was at 51 which isn't drastically low but it was low enough to scare the crap out of me. I went and ate and made it home safely. I have been reading around that people are starting to have trouble with this after surgery. So I was just wondering if anyone else is experiencing this and if so what you are doing about it. Some of the articles I have read say that people are having to get part of the pancreas removed. AHHHH!!!!!! I really hope that is not the case!

I had my check up about a month ago. Took almost 4 weeks for it to come back. BTW, all BCBS people out there: get your labs done at an approved lab, not a hospital! I got a bill for 700.00 for my labs....that's more than my out of pock for my surgery! Yikes! Anyway, I am low on Vit. D, B12, Zinc, and my thyroid is completely out of whack. The nurse said something about my parathyroid being high, but my calcium levels were perfect. I am taking 1800 mg. of Calcium Citrate a day. I wasn't very good about taking my vitamins. I take synthroid and can't take calcium and iron with it, so I just forget to take the vitamins, but I am trying to do better. Anyone else have a parathyroid issue? I feel like I have a goiter, which is how I know my thyroid needs adjusting, I have almost no thyroid function. If you get on the internet, you can find a lot of information, just don't know how much is true. Another question, anyone having wicked hot flashes since they have lost weight? I had a complete hyster in 2006 and never had any menopausal symptoms until just lately. Thanks for your help! You are the best! Deb

Topic: RE: FINALLY!!!
Hi Pam, I plan on stopping where nature stops me.... I am quite happy with where I am except for all the excess belly skin. If that was gone Id be fine. My goal weight has alwasy been 150, but if I don't get there, I will be OK with staying in the 160 range. I will also be OK if I got below 150...LOL My plastic story is this: I met with a PS in Feb when I weighed 199. He agreed that I needed surgery but during the exam he thought he found an incisional hernia. So I was referred for an Ultra sound, which was inconclusive. So then I was sent for an abdominal CT. Which showed a large hernia in my RNY scar. So then I was reffered to a General surgeon which took a couple months to get into. I saw him July 3. I got a call on Friday saying my surgery will be on September 8th. So then I called the PS office and they scheduled me to see him for a post hernia repair consult on November 13th. I asked her if there was a chance I would be able to have the PS before the end of the year and she said possibly. So thats where it stands. If I dont have it before the end of this year it should be pretty early in the new year. Becky
