I had my check up about a month ago. Took almost 4 weeks for it to come back. BTW, all BCBS people out there: get your labs done at an approved lab, not a hospital! I got a bill for 700.00 for my labs....that's more than my out of pock for my surgery! Yikes! Anyway, I am low on Vit. D, B12, Zinc, and my thyroid is completely out of whack. The nurse said something about my parathyroid being high, but my calcium levels were perfect. I am taking 1800 mg. of Calcium Citrate a day. I wasn't very good about taking my vitamins. I take synthroid and can't take calcium and iron with it, so I just forget to take the vitamins, but I am trying to do better. Anyone else have a parathyroid issue? I feel like I have a goiter, which is how I know my thyroid needs adjusting, I have almost no thyroid function. If you get on the internet, you can find a lot of information, just don't know how much is true. Another question, anyone having wicked hot flashes since they have lost weight? I had a complete hyster in 2006 and never had any menopausal symptoms until just lately. Thanks for your help! You are the best! Deb

The parathyroid thing I can't answer, but I too had a complete hysterectomy in 2005 and had a lot of hormonal imbalance since the WLS. Are you taking a hormone supplement? It not take long after surgery to figure out the pill was not staying long enough in my system to do me any good. After about 2 months, they put me on a hormone patch, which seems to have adjusted my hormone levels. Although I do feel warmer now more than ever, I don't believe they are hot flashes. Get on the vitamins, as those are important, and get a B12 shot as often as they will allow, even 1x week. I ask every doctor I see to give me one...usually once a month for sure. Good luck and take care.

Hi Deb, I dont have thyroid issues so I cant help you there. I just had my visit/labs done and am low on Vit D also. From what I'm hearing from my doc and other folks on different boards, vit D seems to be something we will prolly need to take for life. B12 is an easy fix. You can buy sublingual B12 and take that any time of the day--how about taking them with your calcium? I take Flintstones complete 1 pill 2x a day. While I'm not having hot flashes, I am having horrible night sweats...change the sheets kind. My period has also gone from 3 days every 28 days, to once at random times. While I am 44 it is possible that I'm perimenopausal. I have an appt with my GYN soon. Keep me informed on your progress! Jen
