Protein Problems

I would like to be able to use the protein products (shakes, bars) to supplement my intake. EVERY thing I try, be it whey or soy, gives me explosive diahrrea! Even a sip of something sends me to the bathroom. My surgeon says I have irritable bowel syndrome. It's not irritable, it's downright pissed! Any suggestions? Anyone else have this issue? I have always had IBS, but nothing else does it like the protein. Thanks, Deb

Hi Deb, I looked to see if they had an IBS forum but didn't find one. Perhaps ask your nut or post on the diet and nutrition board? There are certified nutritionists that answer ??'s over there. Good luck and let us know the outcome. er, that is answer. Jen

Greek yogurt or cottage cheese might be something that you can try to up your protein. Can't say I can relate to the IBS but it doesn't sound like fun Good luck.

I would say increase your cheese. Cottage Cheese, String Cheese, you'll get protein from them and it helps to solidify your bm's. I have IBS, but since surgery I don't. It didn't matter what I ate before surgery, within 1/2 to 1 hour I was in the bathroom....I now have the opposite effect....honestly, I prefer the before surgery bm's, but I was like that for many years. I eat the Atkins bars for protein. Hope it gets better soon. IBS generally goes in waves....right now it's acting up, but it may change. Here's hoping. Take care of you! Pam
