So I have had this cough for like a week or so and one day I heard this popping noise in my stomach. I felt my belly and coughed. It felt like popcorn was popping in my stomach and this bulge came out. I freaked out and made my mom feel it. She said "you better call your surgeon". So I called and they said it may be a hernia. I scheduled an appointment for the next day. Went to the doc and sure enough he said "you have an incisional hernia" Seriously? Seriously. I mean it seems it has been 1 thing after another since I had my open RNY. So then the doc says that I need to have surgery to fix this hernia thing. He said 3 weeks off work. What? huh? I just started a new position at work and I am in training for the next 3 weeks that I cannot miss. So what do I do? It hurts mainly when I cough or strain too much, but I can deal with it. I am just going to wait until the training is done then have my surgery. He said that he would put this mesh stuff in my hernia. Mesh? Don't you use that for fishing or something? Doesn't Adidas make mesh pants? Am I going to have a jumpsuit in me? j/k you gotta have some sense of humor at a time like this. I don't think it's the hernia part thats getting to me. I think it is the actual surgery. The hospital, needles, scars, un flattering gowns, mean nurses who wake me up every hour. I just don't want to have to do this again. I apoligize for the rant but I wanted to let y'all know. If you have ever had a hernia, can you give me some advice?

Can't help you out on the hernia thing. I just had my late 6 (7) month check up and was found to be PERFECT!! Obviously he didn't look at the loose skin on my belly, my lack of a butt, sagging ta ta's, lot's less hair on my head or those tiny wrinkles around my eyes. LOL Mesh..hmmm drywall tape comes to mind! Try wearing a tummy control undergarment like Flexees or such. Giving you some support in your belly. It should help you get through your training. And just think how good you are going to look in the gown this time! Jen

The mesh is pretty standard now for hernia repairs - it's kinda like putting a patch on the hole in your blue jeans - it just makes it stronger. I don't blame you for being hesitant to go for surgery it sucks that you have to do that Good luck - keep us updated!! Bekah

hey ruth, hope you found out some stuff by now. i know some of the long termers were able to put off getting the hernia fixed so they could combine it with a tummy tuck! any chance or does it hurt too much? my dh had a hernia fixed lap with mesh. he was up and about in a week but i think a lot of surgeons like to do it open to "fix" the mesh better so there is less chance of it coming back. his doc thought he got everything done pretty well but that was the word in the patient waiting room. let us know what you find out. bummer judi

I am really sorry to hear about your hernia, but you will be back to work in no time. I just went back to work after getting my gall bladder out & hernia repair operation. Since I work in an office I was only out 1 week. They were able to do both operations laprescopely. All my holes line up with the previous ones. My orignal surgury w********; this one was 6 holes. I am doing well and I am sure you will too! Good luck to you!
