How do I put my avatar pic on my profile. I can't figure out how to make it smaller so it can fit into the space

here is the site called irfanview, http://www.irfanview.com/ First, download it, then open a picture, then click on "image" then click "resize-resample" choose the pixels and put in 100x100 but i think it will auto size the width for you like a 100x70 or something save it in your pictures folder on your computer. then go to user settings on the main board and you can upload/browse pics from there.
