How many calories are you eating in a day

I was told by my nutritionist to try to get to 1000. I can't ever make it. I drink protein drinks but I still can't get there. I seem to always fall around 700-800. I don't know if this is effecting my weight loss or if I am just going to have a weird loss pattern. I seem to lose for about 2 weeks then nothing for 2 weeks then lose then nothing. It is weird. I exercise 5 days a week. I have upped my protein to at least 70 grams. Usually 80 or more. I drink plenty of diet green tea and crystal light. I do watch carbs. Any suggestions. I am down 50 pounds, some days 51 some days 49 but right in the 50 range. Suesan

Hi Suesan: My nut has me shooting for 800 calories. most days I'm in the 750-850 range. Your nut might have you higher because of your exercise and build. I've lost 50 lbs too. Sounds to me like you are doing well! The more muscle you build up now the better your metabolism will be down the road. I'm shooting for 60 g of protein a day and usually need 1 protein drink to get there. I've seen where lots of people only lose during 1 or 2 weeks during the month. With all of our hormones I think it is normal. Keep on doing what you are doing, I think you are right on track! judi

My nutritionist told me today to get to 1000 calories/day, too (I've been at about 800 with 100 g of protein). It won't be a problem for me as I can eat a lot at one time. The caution though is always eat protein with carbs and with fat - don't eat fat and carbs alone,

Mine never really told me a calorie goal. I have a goal of 60 grams of protein a day, which I did not make today. I ate 660 calories today. I have lost 50 pounds to date. Julie

I'm trying to stay around 1000 a day, although some days I go over and some I go under. My trainer at the gym wants to see me eating 1200 a day, which I could only fit if I eat a handful of full fat cheese hehe. But I don't want to go up that high at only 3 months out. Generally, if you're exercising regular, you'll need more calories. If you go into starvation mode, then your body will fight you to hang onto the extra weight and no matter how much exercise you get, your loss will slow. If you add some full fat cheese to your diet, or full fat cottage cheese even, it will help. A single slice of regular cheese is 100 calories. Also nuts (if you're allowed) will help. South Beach makes some snack bars (not the meal or cereal bars) that are pretty yummy too. They have 100 calories, 3 fat grams, 15 carbs, 5 grams of fiber, 5 grams of protein and 7 of sugar. Since my nut says to limit sugar to 10grams per serving, they work well for me. Good luck!

Well the min number of calories was a question that both my mother and I asked constantly while I was in Mexico having my surgery. My Mother is a bit of a health nut and has always believed that if you got less than 1000 calories a day than your body would go into starvation mode and hang on to everything for all its got. She has continued the quest for this information the entire summer. She has been questioning fitness and nutrition experts and they keep giving her the same answer..... As long as you are gett ing proper amounts of Protein, Fat, and carbs per day than your body will NOT go into starvation mode. So the key is healthy eating and of course the NOT drinking while eating allows you body to get the nutrients you need. Get your metabolism going each day, change your excersise routine regularly, your body will become compliant and if you walk a mile each day, it wont do anything after a while. Switch it up, today walk one mile, tomorrow walk 3. Change intensity etc. Of course the weight loss patterns change, it will fall off in chunks then you wont loose much for a week or two, then have a big drop again. Keep going you are doing GREAT!! and best of luck to you Becky
