Protien Powder...
Ok, I have talked with my RD and she said I can have protien smothies now...but we were using the EAS stuff from Sam's Club. It is making my husbands cholesterol to high. So then he tried some Soy Protein from Wal-Mart and that had to much sugar. So I was going to order some off of Vitalady. But even the samples are $1.99 a pop and I am cheap LOL. When I went to arder a sample of all the ones I thought would be good it was like 20 samples came to $42. YIKES So if anyone has a good one they use please share. It has to be low cholesterol, low sugar. Thanks
I usually order from http://www.bariatriceating.com/ because the owner has also gone through RNY gastric bypass a few years ago and knows what's what. I've used Essence chocolate and vanilla made by Syntrax, as well as IDS vanilla cinnamon. I've used Designer Whey chocolate but that didn't taste very good and really didn't mix well at all. Clumps galore! Most places sell samples for 2.00 each, which is still better than spending $30 or $40 on a jug of protein powder that you later find out is disgusting (anyone want a big tub of Isopure orange/banana/pineapple? BLECH!)
I haven't tried it myself, but many people swear that Matrix Cookies and Cream is the best tasting powder around.
Good luck in your search. It really i**** or miss since everyone's tastes are different.

The soy protein is not a complete protein. For WLS you need whey isolate protein. I bought the sampler from bariatric eating and it was worth the money just to try everything and weed out what I didn't want. I found the Matrix drinks to be really good ****d tea, lemonade come to mind), but I'm sticking with what my hospital gave me as recommended by my surgeon - ProComplex. I use the chocolate, vanilla and caramel nut mixed with FF milk and various SF syrups. I'm now only using 1 scoop for about 30 g of protein and am able to get the balance of my protein from food, averaging 90-100 g of protein total each day. If I couldn't eat as well as I'm able, I'd be using 2 scoops of the powder which is what I did earlier on. I don't know the cholesterol count, but the fat is 1 g per scoop and carbs are about 1.5 g per scoop.
Good luck!
I know that the Soy isn't the greatest, but my husband was trying to use what he could at the time. We ended up going back to the EAS from Sam's and sure enough he got his blood work back today and his Cholestorol is high again so the DR is putting him back on Lovistatin. And we went to GNC and they gave us samples and that stuff they got is NASTY...Anyway I will have to try a few things. Thanks
One of the ones recommended by my surgeons office is Chike.
They are offering the sample pack of 5 for $17.50 plus free shipping. I got mine yesterday and they are pretty good. The Very Vanilla kinda taste like a thin vanilla pudding. Not really sweet and very smooth tasting.
You can get them at www.csshakes.com
They are 180 cals, 3g fat, 27g protien, 2g sugar, and 3 g fiber.
I've been ordering from Unjury at http://www.unjury.com/
I found this protein powder more to my liking. Mixes great...I put 3-4 ice cubes plus water to 8 oz, then add the powder and shake, shake, shake! No clumps. I am able to take it in the car and drink on the way to work. I have a hard time with milk and protein, so when even the water and protein taste good it's a good thing! I found the EAS to be too thick, as are most of the ones mixed with milk. 20 gr protein per 8 oz.
They also sell samples at $1.75, so you could try each and then graduate to the larger size.
Nutritional information is on the website. It is an isolate also, so a good thing.
I just got one of the ones Donna mentioned: the IDS VAnilla Cinnamon, tastes really good added to coffee.
the label says the Cholesterol is 50 mg but the sugars are only 1.5 grams.
don't know if that is too high for him but if you like Cafe Vienna by Int'l Foods, this tastes pretty close in coffee!
good luck, judi
