Usually I snack on food that are high in protein: cheese (Laughing Cow Lite), LF cottage cheese, and yogurt. I may put some fruit in the cottage cheese or yogurt, but I try not to eat fruit or vegetables without protein, too. Also, I plan my snacks so I'm not just eating something when I feel the urge. If you want to snack on nuts (some protein and lots of fat so portions need to be small), just plan it (how many and when). It's getting harder and harder to resist grazing - going from snack to snack to snack and then right into a meal!

One thing I find useful when I want to snack is grab a bottle of water instead. Sip sip sip... This helps me keep on track for my fluid intake and also gets my mind off of snacking. Remember... in the end we want to try and stick to 3 meals a day to maintain. (That's my surgeon's recommendations!) If I get the urge to snack and can't avoid my cravings, I try and have yogurt, jello, cheese, or even imitation crab. Then at least I am getting in protein with few calories. It is a hard thing to do, but if we keep up with healthy choices now, it will be easier as we get farther down the road. I know you can do it!!! Take care. Sherri

Well darlin, don't feel too bad. Nuts DO have protein in them, so you culd be eating so much that is worse. I would have to say to plan things out as well. Perhaps for the week or something and have it portion sized ready to pop in the microwave or something to make it easier. One other thing I was told was not to wait more than 4-5 hours before my next meal. If you do let yourself get too hungry, you're liable to pick up whatever and when you do eat, eat too much or too fast. String Cheese, cottage cheese, might want to go back and look at some of the daily "What did you eat today" posts. Pam

I'd just like to add jerky and snack stix (like turkey slim jims) to the list of high protein snacks. Good luck to you.

My latest is Kashi pumpkin spice granola bars. They are whole grain, nuts and have 6-8 grams of protien depending on what you pick from. It is a nice switch from string cheese and cottage cheese. I also keep special K protien water packets in my purse. I love the pink lemonade, and it gives me something "sweet" when I need it. I also keep a protien bullet in my purse and in my desk for thye instant satisfaction. Watch the nuts you are eating, I usually eat raw almonds, but my husband bought me some cooked ones and they were awful and loaded with fat (over 2x the original amount). Pumpkin seeds and pistachios are also a couple of my favorites. Peanut butter on whole wheat crackers. Turkey jerkey is also a fav, but I can't seem to keep it in the house, my hubby loves it too. Sliced turkey or ham from the deli wrapped around a piece of string cheese. Slice of ham spread with a Laughing cow light wedge wrapped around a dill pickle. hummus and whole wheat baked tortilla chips. Hope this helps Pam
