Weight gain?????
Ok I know you are not suppose to weigh everday. But I work in a hospital and the scales seem to call my name. I went to my 3month check up on wed. I weighed 346. Today I weigh 350lb. How is that? The scale is moving the wrong direction. I started at 415lb. Is this the end of my weight loss already. OMG I eat six small meals a day. I am so confused. Somebody please I go to gym this atleast 3 times a week. Although this week I have slacked some. Any advice is greatly apprieciated.

Sassy,
Don't worry about the scale...IMO... it lies!!! lol
Your weight can fluctuate between 2-5 pounds a day due to water retention. So if you weigh yourself in the morning and then before bed, the numbers will likely never be the same. So day to day even, your body might weigh in at a different weight. So don't wory.
I have also measured myself to keep me on track and not worry as much about the scale. If you didn't measure yourself before surgery... I'd suggest you do i t now oron your next monthiversary. Then track it as you progress. Sometimes those lost inches are way more amazing than the numbers on the scale.
I think another thing to remember, is that is it almost impossible for us to gain weight right now.... to just maintain a weight we are at now we must eat way over 2000 calories a day. I am sure you aren't eating anywhere close to that. Plus that 200 calories assumes you are not moving at all.... just breathing!!! So don't worry... you are in a calorie deficit mode and will lose and continue to lose for many more months.
Take care.... and I hope this helps put things in perspective.

Hi Sassy,
I weigh every day too, although I don't let those gains worry me. It takes eating 1000 calories more than you burn a day to gain a pound of fat. Generally the human body burns between 1500 and 1900 calories a day just being alive, NOT including any exercise you get. So unless you're eating around 2500 - 2900 calories a day and not exercising at all...I wouldn't worry about it!
I usually gain right before my time of the month (which is this week btw). That is one of the reasons I weigh every day though, so I can watch for patterns I might not see otherwise. Sometimes it's only a pound or two and sometimes it's 5 pounds (like this time). I don't let it get me down, I just keep doing what the doctor said and the scale moves again. Try not to stress and just let life happen. You'll feel much better (hugs).

Hi Sassy: I'm a daily weigher too! And everything I would say, Donna already said! lol
I know it is hard but try not to freak! Odds are good that you'll have a big loss next week or sometime to offset this upward spike. Last time my weight jumped up, it stayed there for 8 LONG DAYS. I added an extra protein shake, kept doing my thing, and the scale started dropping again.
Keep our replies to you so you can repeat them to us the next time WE are freaking out!
Keep doing your thing, you will be fine!!!

I confess. I weigh daily also. (It drives me crazy, but I do it). As far as your weight gain... I'll tell you what I have been told...and that is plateaus are normal. It is just your body adjusting the changes you've been putting it through. The temperature, foods just a little more salty than you are used to, normal hormonal fluid retention make weight flucuation a nightmare. Just keep doing what you are supposed to and you will be fine.
Good luck.

Sassy,
Confession time : I am addicted to weighing myself every day. I haven't gained even during Aunt Flo but for the past 9 days I have been at the same weight. Sigh.....
But I measure myself and see big changes. As a matter of fact, when drying my hair this AM I noticed that I have a jawbone and my triple chin is receding!!!

Hi Sassy --
If you are going to the gym 3x per week, your body is building muscle -- and that's GOOD. The only "bad" thing, is that muscle weighs more than fat. My program includes 3 month fitness membership and 10 personal training sessions. My trainer warned me early on that I would either gain a little or have a plateau once the muscles started to build. I'm glad she told me because I went through a 3 week period where I only lost 2 lbs, but I saw big changes in my clothes during that time.
The other thing she told me -- which surprised me -- is that if you don't exercise and do strength training while you are losing this much weight, your body will actually lose lean muscle mass and hold onto the fat -- it's one of those primitive survival mode things. Goodness knows I didn't have much lean muscle mass to start with, so I'm gonna do my best to hang onto it and build more. Stick it out and those darn scales will move soon. Let us know how you are doing!
