Wow! Consignment Shopping!
Hi Everyone! I don't post often, but I read the board daily -- I feel like I know all of you. I finally reached the point where all of my pants and skirts for work are way too big, so I headed out to the consignment shops this afternoon.
Now that we're 3 mos. out, I'm sure many of you are in the same situation -- you need professional clothes for work but don't want to spend $$$. You guys have to try it -- it was actually fun. Can't remember the last time I enjoyed trying on clothes. First of all, it's a great way to try on all different brands of clothes to see which ones fit you best (without dealing with the clerks at Macy's, etc.), and second -- it's cheap! I tried on brands of clothing that I used to dream of being able to wear. I found 2 stores in Columbus that are only a few blocks apart and went to both. They both carried sizes from 0 (ha ha) up to 26W. I found nice, lined wool pants for $12.50, a blazer for $15, etc. My favorite purchase of the day was a pair of Ralph Lauren jeans, size 14 (!!!) for only $10. (OK, so I have to lie down on the bed to get them zipped right now, but I used to do that with my size 24s from Lane Bryant!)
I'm excited to wear my new finds, but I'm looking forward to dropping another size, so I can go again. Let me know if any of you are having consignment luck too! Happy Shopping!!
Alex
Congrats on your awesome shopping trip Alex! I'm slightly envious, as the only place I can find that sells second hand clothes is Goodwill. Normally that wouldn't be bad either, but the town I live in is a military town (the Army post here is the source of ALL the local business), so while there are 5,000 places to drink....there is not one consignment shop. I checked the web, the yellow pages, the local market bulletin boards. There's nuthin! Even the Goodwill stores don't have anything I could wear to work. It's all 1970's rejects on hangers lol. I'm going to have to make the 1 hour drive north and explore Oklahoma City.
But I'm still happy for you and your cool shopping excursion!

This will be my first real big holiday and I am a little nervous. Are you? heres a laugh for you, my family told me if I wanted HEALTHY stuff I had to make it and bring it..hummm all part of my plan maybe I can get everyone else healthier without um even knowing it!..

HUGS,
Valarie
WOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOO! Sounds like you had a great time! I'm at the point right now where I need to go. I've only got a few things I can wear to work. Once I get down to a 20, next size, (I'm jealous about the 14 also), I have tons of clothes from a friend at work. She was a sweetheart and thought of me when her roommate was cleaning out her closet. I got SIX bags of really nice clothes from sizes 20-16.
I am however getting discouraged going in my closet and not finding anything to wear to work, but happy I'm not in the 28-32's anymore.
Keep up the GREAT work!
Pam
