How bad are peoples scars what type of procedure did you have lap / open and are you doing anything to reduce the scaring. I have tried using some bio oil which is supposed to lessen the redness and was wonderiing what other people are doing

My scars aren't really that bad....... not like some others I've seen or heard about any way. I had LAP RNY and have 5 small incision scars. The longest one is maybe an inch and a little more red than the others. I'm not really doing anything, I have other scars from other surgeries that I have trouble finding... they eventually fade on their own. I do lay out in the pool.... in my bikini (ummmm if the pool wasn't in the backyard with the privacy fence... I wouldn't own a bikini) and the sun helps some too. Mel T

HEY JOE, I HAD the open rny and my scar is about 3 inches long with two tiny little ones on each side (where they had my drains) mine are not to bad a little red but i put cocoa butter on them and it seems to help them..... unfortunately i can't go to much in the sun......fair skinned and highly allergic to it...i break out in hives.....ugggghhh i too have scars from having 3 c-section babies and that scar you can hardly tell it is even there

My RNY was open, and I was cut from breast bone to belly button. My husband affectionately calls me "Frankenbelly" now. I'm going to have a tummy tuck at 1 year out, so....no point in doing anything about the scarring now. I've heard things like cocoa butter and vitamin E oil may help, but nothing will completely get rid of scars. Good luck! Donna

All I know is my scar is hella big and it is long and red (see profile) it is a battlewound, a daily reminder that we went through a drastic procedure

Hi Joe: I had open too. long red Frankenbelly scar here too. my hubby had open in june 2006, same surgeon and you can barely see his scar now it has faded so much. my doc told me to use cortaid if it itches. I"m just glopping lotion on it whenever I think of it.

I had lap and have 5 scars about 1 inch each and red. I am hoping they will fade with time but can definitely live with them because I am so grateful to be losing weight and feeling better. Julie

I had open....right down the middle. From breastbone to about an inch above belly button. Originally it was about 10-11 inches long. Now it's about 6-7. Tummy must be getting smaller. WEEEE HAAAAWWW

As I look at my belly to see my scars....LOL I have a total of 6. One drain, 5 lap. Only 2 of my scars are even noticable. They are above my belly button. The others look like old bruises. I've been using aloein a bottle since the steri strips were off. I didn't have stitches or staples. Jen
