A tip!

Alright people. Yesterday I went overboard on my calories and stuff (if you saw the "what did you eat" post from yesterday). My calories for the day were 1,226! I was like "HOLY CHIT". So when I got up this morning I was prepared to see the numbers on the scale go up (yes I weigh daily, I don't recommend it for those who are short on patience!). Anyways, I lost two pounds! I was in shock! So I ask on my other forums people who are further out, what the heck is going on. They say anytime you hit a stall, your body is going into starvation mode. You can kick it out by eating a significantly higher amount of calories for one day. Stress on ONE DAY. Then go back to your normal stuff. It is enough to let your body know you don't intend to starve it so it can let go of the fat stores. It makes sense to me, so next time I stall, I'm going to try it again. If anyone here intends to give it a try, please post your results over the course of a week or so and let us know how it went for you. Donna

I use to have those same results when I was doing Atkins. I would do a big cheat one day a month - usually it involved going out to eat. That was enough to kickstart the body back into losing.

I know when I went from 600 cal/day to 800 recommended by my nutritionist, I began losing more consistently. I weigh daily too and have seen a loss of .2 to .8 pounds per day since then. The last couple of days though it's been sticking at 0 to -.2. So I'm either coming to a stall or a jump. It would be really hard to purposely go to 1200 to test the theory though. New body, new avatar????

I weigh every day too. I figure I got this fat avoiding the scale, I'm gonna face it every day now. I was worried about eating too much when I saw most people on here were eating about 400 calories a day and my NUT said to shoot for 800. My latest plan has been to drink a protein shake in the morning. Before I was hoping to get my protein from food and would only drink a shake at night if I had to. This seems to be working better for me. I believe that you kick started your body though, and just think, 1226 calories is what most people eat to maintain. So even though it SEEMS like a lot to us right now, it is actually a normal amount to eat. Way to Go! judi

I had to go to a social gathering last night and everyone had to bring a finger food. The only thing I could think of to bring that I could eat as well as non surgical people could eat, was small cubes of cheese and some fat free crackers (I didn't tell anyone they were fat free though!). I must have eaten 4 or 5 of those little high fat, high calorie buggers before I realized what I was doing. Ooooh I hate that! Falling into old habit without conscious thought! Well when I came home and owned up to everything in my food log, it really made me think about all the times I'd gone to gatherings like that at night and ate WAY more than a few chunks of cheese. Man, no wonder I ended up being so heavy lol. Anyways, I don't intend to go up to 1200 calories again until I'm in maintain mode, but I will bump it up to 900 when I hit a stall and see if it knocks me out of it. And yes, new avatar! One of my friends from another forum insisted that I share my progress with my OH family, so I'll be updating the avatar once a month lol. Donna
