Scoped and scoped again

Last Friday I was scoped and found to have a major stricture. The scope doc showed me the picture and said, "see that pinpoint there...." It was my opening & so small. I had to go back on Monday to have it done again because they couldn't stretch it that much all at once. I had been sick, miserable and depressed for 6 weeks. I couldn't get food down and could barely get 20 oz of liquid down. I didn't have the typical throwing up, so my doc didn't seem to believe that I was really sick--the implication was that it was in my head and I had to learn to adjust. I am so glad that I pushed to get scoped. Finally I can eat and drink without pain or massive reflux. What a change this is.

I am hearing so much about the strictures. What causes it? I am glad you are feeling better. It sounds awful.

Oh Naomi, I'm so sorry to hear you had to go through this. Thank the Lord that you knew your body enough to push for help. So glad things are starting to get better for you. Keep listening to your body....I've heard that sometimes they can come back....get in at the first signs if (and hopefully it doesn't) it starts again. Pam

Thank goodness! Hope you have smooth sailing from here on, but I have heard some people need to be stretched a couple of time, so continue to be vigilant. I'd love to know what your WLS said after seeing the scope results! Any apologies? Cleo

Hey Naomi, I'm so glad you pushed to get the help you needed. You know your own body better than any doc! I'm glad you're getting fixed up so you can eat and drink like semi normal again. (hugs) Hope you're doing better now! Donna

I've been having trouble getting food down, too, although not miserable or depressed. (I hope your depression has diminished some now that a solution is at hand.) I can't consume anything other than liquids or cream of wheat or highly blended soup. I throw up and feel pain or tightness. I'll be hearing from the doctor or the nurse tomorrow about the next steps. Was your stricture at the output of your pouch? I am probably going to have to be evaluated for this. I've had an diagnostic endoscopy before surgery, although not a dilation. Can you tell me any more about what to expect? I was afraid it would involve another surgery just when I'm starting my Ph.D. program next week! Holly

My doctor has referred me to a gastroenterologist for an endoscopy (and probably a dilation) Thursday. I have all the symptoms, and am told it should provide significant relief. How soon after the procedure were people able to "test" the improvement? Holly
