A tip for the movie-goers

I know that all surgeons are different in their post op dietary guidelines, so this won't apply to everyone. My surgeon says no popcorn, ever. He says it's because 1) the popcorn can expand in the pouch and 2) the hard skins can scratch his handiwork on the way down and out. I'm also one of those people who absolutely can'****ch a movie in a theater without popcorn. If I can't have popcorn, I might as well just rent a movie and stay home right? Well, I found a solution that worked for me. I bought a bag of Genisoy Smart Hearts soy crisps at Walmart (in the section where the rice cakes are), that are white cheddar flavored and brought them in. I decided that rather than sneak it in (which is easy in the giant purse I carry), I spoke to the manager and explained my situation and he said it was fine if I brought my snack in. These little suckers are perfect movie snacking! They are high protein, and small enough to be eaten one at a time like popcorn. The cheddar cheese flavor is so close to the cheddar on popcorn that even the scent of all the buttery popcorn around me can't dim my enjoyment of them. Yay, I don't have to suffer at the movies! Yay! Thanks for the tip. I've never seen Genisoy. You say they carry it at Wally World (Wal-Mart)?

I have a feeling different Walmarts carry different stuff, but yes. I found the Genisoy in the same place as the Quaker Rice Cakes, seperate from the potato chip aisle. I think it was in the same aisle as the cereal. However, if your Walmart doesn't have something you want, you can buy it at Walmart.com and they will ship it to your store for free and email you when it gets there for pick up. I did that to buy my Magic Bullet and I had it within a few days! Donna

Aw thank you Donna! I didn't realize that Walmart would do that. how do you like your magic bullet? I ordered one a few months ago. It's okay! I really haven't used it much, but my mom loves hers... We live with my parents now so I don't really do all that much cooking anymore... ~Michelle

I love my Magic Bullet! I use it every day to make my protein shake snack, and I also use it to make stuff like my seafood salad and to chop up my onions and garlic. I have to say it's one of my better investments. I have a kitchen full of gadgets that collect dust, but not that sucker lol. Donna

Thats a great idea! I will look for the genisoy crisps! I am allowed popcorn but when I went to the movies yesterday I took a protein bar and then had some air popped popcorn. I think it was a better choice than what I used to get but I will def. look fro those crisps because it seems like an even BETTER choice! Thanks! Beth

I looked at soy crisps since someone had posted about them, but the carbs seemed really high.

I'll have to try them. I like the sour cream and onion ones. i crave the saltiness of them. i still am having problems with things that are sweet. as for the carbs, i'm not concerned, it's the protein that i'm focused on because i do not want to lose my hair, nails, get icky saggy skin and have problems with my digestion.

Donna: I'm glad you found a solution for you. I bought some of the soy crisps after someone had posted while i was on vacation. Tried the sea salt and the barbecue. Hated the sea salt and the barbecue was so so. My mom (who has not had wls) liked the barbecue! go figure. Like Cleo, I decided not to get them again. For this first 6 months I am battling "snacking" since that got me into trouble in the first place. Soy crisps are healthier than lots of things but I still haven't decided what I'm going to do! lol
