Slow loser feeling down...

My surgery was 8 weeks ago tomorrow. I've only lost 31 lbs since then. I lost 20 in the first 4 weeks...so I've only lost 11 lbs in the last 4 weeks. I get all the protein and water I should get in. Sometimes I eat once a day, sometimes twice. I don't snack often, and when I do it's string cheese or soy crisps...more protein. Even when I do feel hungry, I don't like to eat since that means I can't drink for an hour. I'm always thirsty. I am so happy that I'm down to a 18/20 from a 26/28, but I'm getting really bummed about the scale, and am starting to worry that either I'm doing something wrong, or that I'll just stop losing altogether. Anyone else feeling like this, or have a way to snap myself out of the duldrums? Thanks for your help. Jeannie

You sound like your doing great! When is the last time you lost31lbs in 8 weeks? Are you exercising? Try changing what you are eating, upping your protein and water and you should see a change soon. I haven't had the blahs but I think exercising every day has helped me. Good luck and keep up your good work!

All I can say is WOW. 31 pounds doesn't seem like alot, but look at your clothing. I started out in 30/32 shirt, and am down to 26/28 and some 22/24. My pants are still the same size, yes they are baggy, but not fallng off yet. Measure yourself. You will be surprised Don't get down on yourself. I think your doing great!

Jeannie: I'm with you. I think some folks just lose faster. I see my surgeon this Thursday but I know he had told my dh (keeping in mind that guys lose faster) that if he lost 20 lbs the first month and 10 every month after that he would be thrilled. So, you are on track! Plus, you may be losing inches. Try not to compare and I'll try not to also. This will work out in the end! judi

I think you probably need to eat more and more often. My NUT said I should have at least 3 meals a day! This keeps your energy level and metabolism UP and running. If you don't your body goes into starvation mode and hangs onto everything. Your losing inches, you can tell that by the clothes, so the scale will eventually catch up. Good luck!

I agree with Buffy. Recently a study just came out that people who dont eat breakfast for example were more likely to be obese than people who do. For the longest time that never made sense to me. I was always like im eating less times a day why am I putting on weight or not losing? Besides give me enough coffee and I wasn't hungry in the morning. However, dinner and breakfast won't forget the hurting on put on them ha ha ha. I think the best way to think of your metabolism is to think of it as a coal burning engine. You should spread out your meals so it keeps the metabolism burning as it were the engine that could. This will help so you dont trick your body into starvation mode like Buffy said. I'm not advocating grazing. But at least three meals a day is important. Also I've heard that males loose weight easier than females too. Everything seems to working right for me as far as my loss. I still can't believe how much I have loss. But this isn't a race. We are all on this journey together. I think it is important to check anything we say with your nutritionist and doctor. But I do think spreading out your meals is the way to go.

i had my 6 week appt with my surgeon today. I've also hit a stall for the last 3 weeks. I'm getting smaller but the scale isn't going down. He suggested to kick up the exercise and be sure I'm eating my 3 meals (1/4 c per meal of mostly protien). he aslo suggested cutting out about 150 calories if possible. I was worried too. But my doc said that it happens and things that worked for us last week may not work this week and so on... Don't lose focus, you're doing great! Make sure you're getting your food in...

I'm almost 8 weeks out and down 34 lbs. The last 4 lbs were in the last week. Why? I called my NUT and she said I needed 650-900 cals/per day at this point. For the first time I tracked my cals/protein and Whoa, I was only getting around 400 calories! Since I upped my cals I lost 4 lbs. Coincidence? I dont think so. Just make sure you're still getting your protein first. I chose Bariatric Protein Bars - more calories, but still good for ya. Hang in there, I know how you feel and it will get better!

I agree with the last poster...I was getting about 500-600 calories and dr said it wasn't enough to get my body out of starvation mode. Needed 800 per day and needed to eat every 2-3 hours to get that in considering the small amounts each time. You'll get there!
