WHAT DO YOU EAT WHEN YOU GO OUT?

I have not been out to get food yet. I am afraid that I will get sick. I have not tried anything. Soups, cheese, yogurt and crackers are getting boring. Any suggestions for a first timer?

Soups, cheese, yogurt and crackers...I wouldn't try new foods for the first time when out. I'd rather get sick at home when experimenting, which is what you have to do. It's all trial and error.

I've only been out twice since surgery. First time was Chili's where I ate a few lettuce leaves from my salad dipped in a side of fat free ranch, and a bowl of chili that I ate maybe half of and my hubby ate the rest. Second time was Red Lobster about 5 weeks out and I had baked flounder with steamed veggies. The veggies were too hard so I took them home and recooked them until they mushed easy, and there was so much flounder on the plate that I got 4 more meals out of it! It was very yummy though! Donna

I have eaten out a lot - lunch because of my job and being on the road. I have had a few of the quiche dishes from Mimi's cafe - delish. Don't reat the crust, just the middle part. Moist and goes down great. I get tuna salad a lot. I get a scoop and usually only eat half or less. I bought some parmisan cheese crisps from bariatric eating.com and carry a box in my purse so when I have tuna salad at a restuarant I spread the tuna on a few of the crisps. I eat tuna salad a lot - even at home. Goes down easy because it is moist. Ordering chili out is usuallly good - but I don't reat the beans. My surgeon says no beans for 6 months. I can't eat chicken - too dense and makes me puke. I have no problem with hamburger, so I sometimes order a cheeseburger with no bun. I would try a few things at home before eating them out though.

Well, I've been out a few times and haven't had a problem. First of all, see if the restaurant will let you order a child's portion. That saves on money and having to throw away good food later. Soups are always a good choice, including chili. If you're bored with that, I've went to Crackerbarrell and ordered 2 or 3 of their sides, like the green beans, mashed potato's, etc... Their grilled chicken strips are very moist and easy to get down. Another thing I have done is order an appetizer, so the portion is smaller. Try potato skins and scoop out the insides. Places that have thick ones are the best (more potato, less skin). If you can handle beef, try the chopped steak. It is less greasy than hamburger and easy to chew small enough to get down. A-1 steak sauce has 0 sugar and has not aggrivated me thus far. Any baked fish is a good option, too. Don't deny yourself getting out, Veronica. Taste a few things off of your friend's, husband's, boyfriend's, whoever is with you, from their plate. One or two small tastes and you'll know if you can eat it or not. If you take small enough tastes, you won't ralph all over, so don't worry. Have fun and experiment. Good luck!

Here's what I've tried and had luck with: Ceviche Tostada (minus the tostada... just ate the shrimp) Beef/Chicken soft tacos (minus the tortilla ... just ate the meat) Chicken skewers (ate all the chicken... mmm.... were yummy off the appetizer menu at my favorite japanese restaurant). Breakfast - one egg over medium with hashbrowns, a slice of bacon & a bite of toast Here's what made me ill from a restaurant: Sushi (tuna-didn't eat the rice) Chicken strips (too greasy)

I had lb 6/18/07 and the lst two weeks I was out of town - one week plahing in a golf tournament and the other at a family reunion in Okla. It was a struggle to eat out every day - but the first week - I ate 1 egg and 1 piece of bacon....then just a little salad for lunch...chicken at night. The second week - we ate out almost every day..eegads.....that was hard....egg or yogurt in the morning....I frequently orderd off the appetizer menu - like crab cakes - or carpacchio - or chicken skewers....It was much harder to keep on track those two weeks than it had been before. But I'm back home now and had my first fill today.....so we will see what that brings! Carlotta

woops - that should have said the last two weeks - not the lst two weeks! I wouldn't have been able to eat any of that in the first two weeks! CJ
