Things I know I can eat and keep down
I'm 6 weeks out today, and when I read what some of you are able to eat I get a bit down. I thought I'd list what I can take in and see if there is anyone else like me out there. My surgery date was 6/21, I had Laproscopic RNY. I did have to have my esophogeal tube dilated 7/25 and will probably have to have it done again next week.
Every day I take my Spiderman vitamins: 1 in the morning, 1 in the afternoon, and 1 in the evening. I also take Gas-X as needed and I take my prescription Pepcid along with my Spidey vitamins.
I get in anywhere from 25-45 oz of water a day - I prefer Smar****er because of the electrolytes.
I have 3-5 servings of water ice or popsicles every day.
I take cut up watermelon (seedless only) and freeze it (4-5 small pieces per serving) because I can't tolerate it fresh.
I can tolerate Nabisco's 100 Calorie Pack Oreo's and Cheese Nips and I love my Funyons. I can also take Premium Saltines (1-2 crackers) and break them into quarters, place them on my tongue salt side down and let them dissolve.
I have tried blended tuna, chicken etc..., blended soups, mashed potatoes, cottage cheese, scrambled eggs, cream of wheat (yuck!!!) and they either never stayed down, or for some reason don't stay down anymore. I'm not giving up, I try something new at least 2x a week, yesterday I tried shrimp ****tail (without the sauce) and sadly, it did not stay with me. I'm going to try it again in a day or two, I'm thinking that the stuff I had to drink with the Upper GI messed around with my entire insides... ugh... Oh and you wanna know something else??? My son made homemade choc. chip cookies, I had one, and guess what!!!??? I didn't toss my cookie!! I'm happy and sad about that at the same time... I can also have low fat frozen custard - now that is something I can NEVER be sad about!!!
I look forward to hearing from everyone... God Bless Ya'll....
here's what i've been eating:
thinly sliced deli meat (roast beef or roasted chicken)
Oaxaca cheese (mexican mozzarrella)
crackers (ritz, melba toast)
a couple peices of the chips a hoy, lorna doon or oreo thin crisps (from the 100 cal packs)
chicken (has to be well cooked, but not dry, no skin)
ground beef
Pacific Red Snapper
Shrimp
scrambled eggs
pepper jack cheese
potatoes (mashed or fried)
grilled steak
S/F Jello
S/F popsicles
N/F canned whipped cream
Here's what I've had trouble with:
Lean turkey sausage patties
Fish (Tuna steaks, halibut, catfish)
Protien bars (atkins, zone, etc)
Here are some things I've been able to eat and keep down. I'm leaving out all the obvious mush stuff, and also I want to note that everything on this list is now WELL CHEWED to near liquid before I swallow, a hard lesson learned
Edamame (raw in the shell soy beans)
Baked or broiled salmon, tilapia and flounder.
A very small side salad (lettuce, tomato, black olive, tiny bit of fat free ranch)
Imitation crab, cooked or cold in a salad.
Cooked shrimp
Steamed to mushiness baby carrots
Baked zucchini slices, with I Can't Believe It's Not Butter Spray, parmesan cheese and a little garlic or onion powder. YUMMM! Found that recipe on sparkpeople.com
Light string cheese stick wrapped with a slice of turkey lunch meat
I'm sure there's stuff I'm forgetting but that's a list to start with if you're looking for ideas

Looks like you still need some protein in there...remember to try and get whatever your doc recommends! Hopefully you are at least getting protein shakes down? Looks like you have tried a lot of other protein, but what about imitation crab, string cheese, yogurt, refried beans (or other types of beans)? Also canned chicken (or tuna) with lite mayo and dill relish.
I would avoid the sweet stuff all together, unless sugar free!
Keep trying and remember one day may not be like the next...one day you can't eat an egg, the next day deviled eggs are just fine.
My doc said this next phase is all about experimentation and seeing what you can tolerate or not. I've learned hamburger is not my friend, whether a patty or browned.
Good luck to you, and keep working on the protein!
I've only had trouble with milk (except in coffee), mahi-mahi (too dry), and a piece of filet beef.
I refuse to try cookies, cake, chips, ice cream, etc or potetoes, rice, bread. That's what got me here and I'm now experiencing head hunger so if I try them I won't stop.
so here's what I have been able to eat
any LF cheese I can get my hands on (Buffy D got me hooked on Laughing Cow lite)
LF yogurt and yogurt smoothies
NF cottage cheese
chicken (I have a great recipe from Bariatric Eating calls for simmering in chicken broth then adding a little marinara sauce - real tender and juicy)
tuna, tilapia, cod, salmon
Crab (dying for shrimp but dr said it's too hard on the new stomach)
Lamb
extra lean ground beef
Egg Beaters w/tomatoes (no skin) and LF cheese
Poached egggs
chopped turkey w/ lite mayo
No sugar added sweet gerlkins added to tuna, chicken or turkey salad
Spinach (cooked)
Broccoli flowerets (cooked; not the stalk)
Plum (fresh; no skin)
Canned pears and peaches
I miss cooking but with such a limited menu and so little volume, it's more practical to sstick with the above.
