Bathroom Issues

I am having diarrhea several times a day. Very watery, but brown or dark green. I am drinking what I should be drinking...getting plenty of protein. I thought I was lactose intolerant. Started drinking only Lactaid and taking Lactase pills before any dairy product. After three days, I see no difference. Is this a call the surgeon issue, or am I missing the big picture. Other than that, I feel great..maybe a little tired. Thanks! Deb

You should call your surgeon or your pcp because the diarrhea could be making you dehydrated. maybe you should stick with some blander items? just a suggestion...

Hi Debbi, I agree with Michelle. Call your doctor. Diarrhea is really not something to ignore if it is continuing. Better to check with the experts. Cindy

I'd say to call the surgeon. I am five weeks out and my bowel movements are pretty much normal. Better safe than sorry.

Its funny how we are all different. I amd 8 weeks out and have yet to have a "normal" bowel movement. My pcp told me that it may be like this for up to 6 months while my body adjusts to all the changes. My surgeon doesn't seem that concerned. If it is not normal for you. Call one of your drs. always better safe than sorry.

Everyone heals differently and experiences different things but one thing is for certain -this is not normal - YOU MUST CALL YOUR DOCTOR!!! I have not really been able to eat and I am 6 weeks out today. I would try and eat and the food would seem to get stuck, and then a few minutes later, I'd be throwing up. I thought it was something I was doing wrong, so I waited until my check-up - - -stupid me, my problem was my esophogeal tube was way to narrow, had some scarring and was a bit kinked. I had another visit yesterday and told the doctor I don't feel food getting stuck anymore, but I still can't keep anything down - - he had me get an upper GI, that turned out good, no blockage, so now I have to have my esophogeal tube dilated again..... I know that as long as I keep him informed, he'll be able to help me through this. I feel good, I have energy, I just can't eat. I'm worried about my bone health and losing my hair because I can't get in enough nutrients but he said don't worry for right now, just stay hydrated!!! Well, sorry for being a windbag.... CALL YOUR DOCTOR!!! let us know how you make out... briggie ^i^

Thanks for your suggestions. I did call the doctor this morning. I spoke with a nurse and she said she would investigate and call me back. Well, she said I was "dumping." I disagreed because I have no other symptoms other than the daily bowel prep I am doing now. She said to stick with the Lactaid, etc. for a few more days. This only happens at night...starting about 5:00 p.m. Beats me what is going on, but I am going to make sure that I am not eating before a meal and after a meal. To be honest, that is what I miss the most about this surgery...drinking with my meal. She said to call Monday if I am still "running." I am going to stay hydrated and hope for the best. Thanks to you all! You are the best! Deb

thi**** me my last 2 days in the hospital (i had open). i also had my gallbladder out don't know if that contributed. i also think i am probably lactose intolerant now. They were giving me skim milk in the hospital. when I was discharged my doc told me I could take Immodium or something else. He said to be very careful with Immodium due to our malabsorption he didn't want the problems to go the other way! I took the Immodium and after 1 1/2 days was "normal" My theory is that my body got totally out of whack and needed something to settle it down and get on track. However, on the main board I've seen people post "liquid in liquid out" like this is normal. So, I guess everyone is different.
