Not such a good day

I had my first day at work today and I'm on part time hours, working from 7am to 1pm. I don't get a lunch break, but I do get one 10 min break around 10am and I use that for my protein shake snack. I figure I can wait till 1pm to have lunch, because I usually eat at 12:30pm anyway when I'm home. Here's where it gets ugly. By the time I get home it's 1:30, get lunch ready and I'm eating by 1:45. By now, I'm really hungry and no matter how hard I try, I can't slow down. So by 3pm I've been puking for an hour and lunch, which has lodged in the exit, is now making it's reappearance....several times. I hate to ask for a lunch break at noon when I leave at 1pm. What should I do? I'm allowed to snack at my desk but not have a meal. (sigh) I knew it was too good to be true lol. I did well at work, didn't forget anything, didn't mess up, didn't get overly tired, etc. Now that I'm home, the rest of my day is shot. I was going to head over to the university campus and see about nursing school after work. Now I'm alternating between sitting here quietly and leaning over the bowl. Well anyway, thanks for listening to me whine and complain! Feels better to just get it off my chest. Donna

I'm so sorry you are going through this. It really does take some adjustment to go back to work. Keep working at it (like you have a choice??). You will find what works for you just like you did at home.

Donna, If you can snack at your desk, try this. Take a few wheat thin crackers. Put a dab of light cream cheese on each one and a little deli ham. It will fill you up and give you protein and you won't be so hungry when you get home. It also just looks like a snack so you can't be accused of a meal at your desk. Good luck, Mary

I'm sorry you're not having such a good day. That's no good! Maybe don't ask for a full 1/2 hour lunch break, maybe ask if you can have a 15-20 minute break so you can eat a little lunch. Would they allow that? Do you have a break room? My lunch looks like a snack, so no one here really complains... I hope you're feeling better!

What a terrible day you had! I'm sure it will get better as you learn to cope. Could you have a string cheese on your drive home? If the drive isn't too long (you don't want to stretch out your meal for more than 1/2 hour), you could eat the cheese then continue with a smaller lunch when you arrive home. Also, try making your lunch ahead of time so it's ready when you get home. Other idea is to make lunch at home a protein shake/drink and have your "lunch" at your desk. Like a previous poster said, our meal looks like a very small snack. Hopefully your employer won't make the distinction between meal and snack by whether or not you have to use a spoon/fork. Hmmm..Snickers candy bar (no spoon/fork) or a couple of ounces of healthful tuna? What employer in their right mind want to pay the continuing medical bills for unhealthy eating? Good luck!

Maybe you can bring your lunch with you & eat at work at 1pm when your shift is over? That way you don't have to wait the extra 45 minutes to get home & make your meal? Just a suggestion. Good Luck! Amy

Thank you all for the advice and understanding, that's why I love it here I was up, vomiting, until 12:30am. Someone from the RNY board suggested some papaya enzyme, and I remembered there's a 24 hr Walgreens here that has it. I finally got to bed like 1:15am. I'm seriously wiped out today. Back on mushies and vegging on the couch lol. Thanks again everyone Donna
