I had the same problem a couple of weeks ago. You can gain weight one of two ways at this stage in the game:
1) PMS is a fact of life for lots of us. Even if you didn't retain water before...your hormones are going bananas right now so you may start retaining now.
2) Too much salt in the diet. I was drinking chicken broth because it goes down sooo smooth and feels good to the pouch. Unfortunately that was the culprit to my water weight gain. As soon as I laid off the broth, drank more water, it went away.
