1 month postop

Today I went for my 1 month postop. I have lost a total of 21 pounds since surgery. I asked my doctor about fruit and he said he was not really big on fruit but if I wanted I could have a little bit of bananna or canteloupe. I also am still no no breads, pasta, or raw veggies. I notice some people on here are eating crackers, melba toast. etc. Is this part of the diet the physician gave you? I would love to have some Ritz crackers but don't want to jeopardize anything I have done so far. Thanks, Julie

Julie - I don't know if my Doc would recommend it or not, but I've used Ritz crackers as a base to my mini-fake pizzas, and put them in soup for some flavor. These crackers are the only thing close to bread I have had.

Hey Julie....CONGRATULATIONS on the 21 lbs! That is AWESOME! I have Reduced Fat Wheat Thins sometimes. This is one of the things in my book. I don't have many....I make sure that the topping on it is protein. I am actually at 6 weeks on Monday and was told that I can do trial and error foods. They don't give a list for farther out. You try what you want (within reason) and if it works, it's okay. Still have to stick with protein first, and chew, chew, chew. Pam

I'm with Pam K. Dr said to limit the crackers to no more than 4 a day. Good with that tuna salad!

I got a menu to follow after surgery. I can have crackers, but my main focus is protein. I eat the crackers last and if I don't have them that's fine. It's just nice to eat a variety of things rather than just one item at a time... my menu includes crackers and very well toasted bread.

My surgeon tells me that the only crackers he allows is saltines, kinda blech, so I haven't had them since my first post op week.

i've found that what we can each eat is an individual process, I am 5 weeks out and cannot eat what some are eating 2-3 weeks out. If I were you, I'd try one Ritz, but I would break it up into quarters, let it sit salt side down on your tongue and let it dissolve, then chew, chew, chew - wait a minute then try another piece. YOU MUST BE CAREFUL NOT TO DRINK FOR AT LEAST 15 MINUTES AFTER YOU'RE DONE!! Mixing fluids and food can cause you to "dump" and it expands your new pouch!!! I tolerate saltine's better than ritz, but then again - everyone is different - - good luck!!! briggie
