I had the gastric RNY June 28, 2007 and I am having a problem getting all the protein in. Does anyone have a sample eating plan that they are using?

Here's the soft food plan I was given: Breakfast: 2 medicine cups (about 2 oz) Egg Beaters, scrambled egg, or poached egg Snack: protein drink @ 55g protein made with 8 oz skim milk Lunch: 2 oz fat-free refried beans Snack: 6 oz low fat, low sugar yogurt Dinner: 2 oz well-mashed tuna with 2 tsp light mayo Snack: 15g protein drink Eat 2-3 hours apart. Substitute eggs, yogurt, tuna with other protein-dense food like cottage cheese, low fat string cheese, turkey. This is supposed to give you about 750 calories and over 100 g protein. Supplement liquids to reach 6-8 cups of fluids per day. I can't drink a whole 8 oz of milk at once so I just use water or Crystal Light to mix the protein powder. Also, I hardly ever get in the last snack because I concentrate on drinking liquids. The nutritionist advised me to increase the soft proteins (cottage cheese, eggs, yogurt) which seem to go down easier and allow myself up to 30 minutes for each meal/snack (rather than the 15 minutes the instructions stated). I'm on the progression diet now and it looks the same, with little wee bits of vegetables here and there (broccoli flowerets, not the toughter stalks, skinned and seeded tomatoes, french-style green beans, spinach) and up to 3 oz of different meats, poultry, seafood. I'm never hungry and have had no trouble digesting anything other than mahi mahi (fish) that is too dry. Hope you get a schedule that works for you! It's very complicated for me so I just keep doing the same thing. Plus, being able to eat the same lunch over and over means I can use up a whole can of tuna before it spoils! The real life saver for me is the very high protein drink because I get half my daily protein requirement in 1 8-oz drink - over and done!

I was told that your body can't absorb more that 30 grams of protein at a time. Has anyone else hear that?

My NUT told me about the 30g of protein also. I wonder what time frame that "at a time" is. Anyone know that?

Hello I was also told that. The body can only use 30 grams at a time. So I split my protein up into 3 times a day!! Shannon

I read that, too, and asked the nutritionist why we would use a 55-gram shake. It's because a NORMAL person takes in 30 grams. For us to get 30-grams we have to take in more.
