Hi - My name is Kim and I had my surgery on 6/25/07 open RYN. I have a question on exercise. I see some folks out there walking a mile or more. I still feel lousy and exercise is the last thing I want to do. I went back to work this week (part-time) and all I want to do is rest when I get home. I did take my daughters to the mall tonight and was wiped out when I got home. How abnormal is this? I do take my vitamins, B-12, and protein --at least 60 g a day. What am I missing? Anyone know how to edit my profile? I can't seem to get my date of surgery in!

Hi there, Kim! I just set up my account two days ago, so I am still finding my way around. I think my surgery info was added when I clicked on "my account" and then under the tab "surgery related" I clicked on "I've got a date." You can enter the info there. Maybe the energy difference has to do with you having open, versus lap. I had no energy after my open gall bladder surgery. Still, if you feel this way much linger you should call Dr. T's office and see what he has to say. Plus, I am not back to work, so I have a lot of available down time, where you may not have as much. Can you believe it will already be three weeks as of Monday!

Hi Kim, glad your no longer a lurker!!! it took me awhile to actually post also.I love this website i think i am addicted to it. LOL I had my surgery on the 28th i have gone out and about by myself 2x's and have been extremely tired by the time i got home as well...each day though it seems to get a little better.i am going back to work monday but have done a few things for work the last couple days. i am a associate broker with coldwell banker soooo my job is not that bad.i am just doing what i can and resting when i can and getting out and walking when i can. if you don't feel good i would always call the dr. maybe they will want to do some blood tests.....everyone is different and everyone heals different. good luck and stay in touch......if you go to yourprofile page you click on edit and you should be able to do everything there. it took me awhile to figure it out and i usually am pretty good at this kinda stuff.

Hi, Kim! Everyone is different and what you describe is not abnormal. However, unless you really feel there is something wrong, you might want to just make sure you're moving a bit more each day. I went to the gym 1 week post op to use the treadmill for two reasons. One, it is too freaking hot here in Virginia to walk outside! Two, I felt so lousy from the general anesthesia, I wanted to sweat it out as soon as possible. By the beginning of the 3rd week post-op when I went back to work, I didn't feel the effects of the anesthesia any more and was able to get through full days of work. It helped that the first week included July 4, so I only worked 2 days before a break! I also don't have a family to care for at home. So, you see, everyone has different conditions to work with. Just make sure you set yourself a goal to exercise whatever it is. The sooner you start, the better your success will be. You will soon feel WONDERFUL!! Enjoy!

Hi Kimberly! Glad to have you join us! Anesthesia affects everyone differently. I know the more you walk, the better you will start to feel, the anesthesia will leave your body, your blood will flow is better and that promotes healing. Start out gradually, and work your way up. I walked like crazy in the hospital because my shoulder blades hurt too bad from gas to sit or lay and by day 3 I walked all over the place in the hospital 12 times. I was rarely in my room. This being said, you need to listen to your body and if you feel like something is wrong, please don't hesitate to call your surgeons office, you never know. Pam
